Re: What exactly are the RMT mules doing?

Well... I notified a GM and sent a email to the STFu like they said. Wonder if they are really looking into it. I'm curious to know if we'll ever figure out what they are doing as well. There were a lot more than 5 though. I've noticed it in Port Sandy before in numbers maybe between 5-10 chars but I was in Bastok Mines and saw it on kinda a large scale. There were easily 10-15 long haired Humes and about 10 Taru doing the "ant-trail" described. It was pretty fascinating.

Although I appreciate your input on a possible solution, just seems a bit harsh, because that would effect a lot of potential subscribers. ((new ones that is)) New subscribers are very important to a game's health, and I think they out weight the drawbacks of holes in the system that RMT personnel use. At least in SE's point of view.
The 14 day trial was introduced in October 2008 iirc. The month of November saw cities completely flooded with fishbots on trial accounts. So come December update you saw this:
The amount of fishing fatigue incurred has been increased for characters below level 20, and for characters for whom less than two weeks have elapsed since their first login.
      Source: ≪Dec. 9, 2008 (JST) Update Details≫

Specifically they made it so that instead of being able to make 200 catches per day, you could make 10. This was obviously intended to target RMT bots but it had a significant impact on legit players, both those starting out and veterans:
I decided to level SMN so I could more easily do the ring quests (solo Brigand's and trio Pirate's). I'm currently level 12 and decide I better do the guild fish today. Ok NP, it's giant catfish - only need 10 and they're only level 31 - easy.

Out of my Mog House I pop down to Port San d'Oria and start fishing. I pull up like 6 fish and then get crazy fatigue. I'm thinking WTF!? By 8 fish I'm no longer catching anything. I quickly realize oh, damn under level 20 fatigue.

The bitch of it all is, I have 100 fishing skill!! Obviously I'm not RMT and have actually invested alot of time in my character. So just because I'm less than level 20, I get mad fatigue? Yep.

So, I go change my job to 65 BST and go back fishing. Guess what... my fatigue is still capped and I can't catch anymore fish. I can't even get the 10 fish needed for the guild. BS!
SE devs have to be a bunch of monkey's i swear... instead of banning them like any normal dev would do... they make it impossible for a new player to make any money what so ever. Fishing was a great way for new players to make some gil so they had some what decent gear to level with.. not now though =/

They wonder why so many people start the game and quit so quickly... Because the learning CLIFF is terribly steep. Oh well guess i'll have to use leather gear and a crappy GA until 20.
Source: Titanictus.Com :: View topic - Is it even possible to fish anymore before Lv20?

These issues have still not been fixed by the way. So the idea that SE is avoiding action for fear of having a negative impact on new and existing players is just wrong. SE has a long history of destroying the most profitable activities in the game thanks to RMT stumbling on to them and exploiting them en masse, from rusty caps back in 2004 to the nerf on farming bugards, leeches and demons last winter.

Banning new players from trading would essentially mean that they can't be given a linkshell which is pretty bad since they won't be able to communicate with ingame friends and the like.

You are making valid points. Perhaps I just haven't come in contact enough with the RMT trade in-game to know how bad it really is.

Well the trial is only two weeks. I think it was like two months before I got a linkshell. And not only that, if they really want one, they can pick up the full version. I think I played WoW's trial for like two days even though I got like 14 or something.

Re: What exactly are the RMT mules doing?

What if they quarantined trial accounts in a test server with only the original + zilart zones available (to keep it small enough) and no option to take anything they got out of it?

It's a trial after all, and a very short one, so it wouldn't affect much if you had to restart with a new character on the "official" servers should you decided to join the game.

              Too much?

Re: What exactly are the RMT mules doing?

I saw about 20 naked blonde Humes all with characters with names that were Emmm(random crap) all anon and the same character model doing exactly this. I called a GM as it definately wasnt somebody muling and the GM did nothing. And why should we have to exit the game to fill in an online form to remove people that dont deserve to be in the game?
The Gm should of appeared saw what was going on and waved the banhammer.
Fair enough /tells are distinct proof that people are up to no good but surely the GM's can see what they are up to in more detail than we can no?
Then again we wouldnt have gil sellers if we didn't heve players that sucked that buy the gil in the first place. I was shocked to learn that the person that got me into this game told me they had been buying gil before they left. Funnily enough he was one of the ones that moaned the most about RMT. When I asked why he said it was too hard!

So yes stop sucking people, go out and farm.

They don't have to actually appear, they can read the code like in the Matrix.
