  • What to pay/do for a Genbu's Shield?

    Now that Blu is at 70, it is time once again to start looking at that gear wishlist of mine and Genbu's Shield is pretty high on that list.

    While I don't have Sky access yet, but I have Sea, go figure I do plan on getting Sky access sometime over the course of this summer, time allowing that is. However once I do get Sky access I have no time to join a Sky shell, and I'd hate to just join one long enough to grab a shield and then scoot, so I'm contemplating seeing if I can merc it out. A few LS mates of mine are also in Sky shells and they were open to the idea, that was last year when I brought it up though, so dunno how it stands by now.

    So, what do you guys think would be a fair price to pay for a Genbu's Shield? Or else what would you consider an equivalent exchange or something to be? For instance say I provide the pop item, I get the shield if it drops and the group who kills the big bad turtle gets everything else. Which is probably going to happen anyway since I only want that shield and am uninterested in the rest of his drops.

    You have the right to remain silent, anything you say can and will be misqouted and then used against you.

    I don't have a big ego, it just has a large mouth.

    Pfft, anyone that says they are your friend and charges you for a Genbu's Shield isn't much of a friend, imo. Most of the time those are dropped in a regular Sky ls because they drop regularly and no one needs it. Work on getting sky and worry about that later. In the meantime, make friends with people in Sky ls's and maybe someone will let you lot it instead of letting it drop.

    If you provide the pop, then yes you should get your pick of an item from the loot. DO NOT TELL THEM YOU WANT THE SHIELD! Genbu drops venomous claw and divine log which go for about 200k on my server. The shield is worth at best 1/2 that or less. Sell the drop and then buy the shield if you still need to.

      It should be said that quite unlike sea, sky is something that can be unlocked in a couple evenings, so no worries about blocking off part of your vacation for that like you might for CoP.

        I went from post-headstone (Grav'iton fight) to Sky in one good day. Just get a group of people that don't mind helping, or that all need it. The battles aren't very rough, the running around isn't that bad, and it's all pretty simple.

          So, 100k or less for a shield? Even I can pay that.

            I wouldn't pay anything for it. Any sky linkshell worth their salt will give it to you for free, unless it's a really new linkshell. It's really not that hot of a sky piece, at least for my linkshell.

            Just sit on genbu island and ask every linkshell that comes by if they need help with Genbu. You kill, you get shield. That or ask a friend who is in a sky linkshell if you can leech.

              Yea, pretty much only shells full of new people to sky will actually want that shield. Most likely if they do sky regularly, everyone has one already.

                Re: What to pay/do for a Genbu's Shield?

                The first sky shell I was a member of lasted about a year and I don't remember Genbu shield ever hitting the floor. The current shell I am in has been doing sky for almost a year, and Genbu shield is still being lotted. Just wanted to throw that out there that not every shell is the same. Part of the reason could be similar to the Azoth drop rate difference TGM's shell is seeing vs the others that posted. Not everything is set in stone so you won't know a particular sky shell's situation until you speak to them. Don't go into a conversation expecting something, but at the same time don't let them charge you 500k for it either.

                I recommend doing what TGM said. Buy a pop set, and sponsor the Genbu fight with the understanding that you want the choice of 1 item from the drops. If the shield drops take it, otherwise know what the value of the other drops are ahead of time so you can make an informed decision on what to take. If you decide to take a "gil" item you can sell the item and afford to buy another Genbu pop set (probably have gil left over too).

                  Maybe is just Fenrir, but from what I've heard Genbu is still wanted and expensive. So maybe I should switch servers. <_<;

                  Also, how much is a pop set nowadays? I was thinking about trying to solo both trigger NMs but simply getting the gil might be preferred if the pop items are cheap enough.

                    >.> just grab a 75 Pld/Nin kiter, 75 Blm and 75 Rdm and farm/kill him yourself. Genbu is a joke, my old LS use to do nekked Genboob runs (we even won nekked and all weakened, had to force wipe cause one guy CFH on him lol). Really, Genbu is all about time sink. Sure, going with 4 people will take much longer that going with an Alliance, but the fact is that you can do it. Hell, with a Rdm you can pretty much duo it with any DD that can blink tank decently. My old friends from the same LS use to go up with Mnk/Nin and Rdm/Drk.

                      Heheh, I wish I could just grab help from Storage. That would make many things in the game much easier.

                      Maybe I can get help from the LS to kill the mob. But getting trigger items goes first.

                        I tried to look them up on FFXIAH but no one on Fenrir had them listed. I can tell you they are Gem of the North and Winterstone. Dropped from Zipacna and Olla Grande respectively. Zip is a timed respawn NM and Olla is popped by trading a farmed item to a ???. I have no experince with low man fighting them so I recommend checking out the testimonials on ffxiclopedia.

                        Also, I can keep an eye on how many people are actively lotting the shield from my shell and see if maybe they'd be willing to give it away, or sell cheap.

                          Re: What to pay/do for a Genbu's Shield?

                          You need the Water drop from the pots on that floor, can be solod by a skilled person, duo'd easily (Mnk/Nin and Rdm/Drk ftw). As for killing Olla, it's very easy. Can be done w/ 3 skilled people: Tank (Nin or Pld), DD, Healer. It's a bit of an endurance fight as you have to kill it 3 times in a row, but with a skilled healer and tank, it shouldn't be a problem.

                          Zip is kind of a pain. He roams around a lot, so once you have his pop window (4-6 hours I believe), you will need someone with Wide Scan. Once you find him, you need to wait for him to get close to the door (pain to open and keep open) and shoot/cast on him, then run back to the zone and fight on the stairs. He likes to spam AoE, so a dedicated healer is a must. The lowest I've killed him with was 5 people, but if you do this you will need a Brd and a Whm.

                            I've been reading some info about those NM and Zip does seem like a pain, guess I'll have to check outside Jeuno and see if some pop sets are for sale.

                            Also, if your LS is willing to give/sell that'd help a lot, thanks.

                            By the way what time of the day do you fight these? Because one of the main reasons I don't have this kind of stuff is because my playtime is limited. Can only play after 9pm est for a few hours on weekdays, but on sat-sun I have more time to play.

                            I may get help to kill Genbu if I get triggers, but getting help to kill NMs and time to camp them is very unlikely unless I do it on sat-sun against all the competition. So that complicates things for me no matter how easy it could be with a few people.

                            That's why I solo so much, my schedule just isn't event friendly. Heck it's a miracle I've been able to attend Limbus so often lately. o_O;

                              Same reason I don't do anything endgame anymore. I just don't have the time. The best I can manage with my schedule right now is a few hours of leveling. So that's my focus. One day I'll have a bit more time to do other stuff, but until then I just have to suck it up and do without some of the endgame gear I want.
