Re: First-time Dynamis: Dos and Don'ts?

Just do a few runs with your group and you'll quickly learn the ropes. If they ask you to be main assist (main tank), and you're uncomfortable, politely decline and learn from the other tanks. Like most of endgame (if you refer to Dyna as such), just listen to the leaders and work together with your team. Also, try to have a little fun. Dynamis can become quite tedious if you're not enjoying your time.

Somebody may have covered this, but a useful macro during dyna is the assist macro: /assist <target>. Replace <ta> with the name of the designated main tank (assist). Do not, do NOT, have auto-target on as you will most certainly wake a mob up that will cause trouble. See Karinya's post above.

Re: First-time Dynamis: Dos and Don'ts?

Thanks to everyone for the advice! We did Dynamis-Bastok last night. It wasn't quite what I expected.
We were arranged like 2 exp parties plus a BLM party. I think we had too few people to be effective, though: 18 at full-strength,
and people kept coming and going during the course of things. Mostly going.

The other tank couldn't make it, so it was just me (69) and one other PLD (75). It was kinda rough at my level, but I don't think I did half-bad.
Unfortunately we only had 14 people left towards the ends, so we didn't even try to tackle the boss. SMN, BLU, RDM, and BLM armor dropped, plus a relic scythe.

A few lessons I learned the hard way:
-Don't wake up scorpions until they're silenced.
-Don't voke and then flash the same mob--you'll need one or the other too soon.
-Get the WHM mobs far, far away from the others.
      -Bring antidote.
      Must level...<Resist sleep> ...

Excellent lessons learned. Also, I did not realize your group would be low maning your dynamis run. It sounds like y'all did pretty well for your first one. Good luck on the next one.

For a complete clear? I would say 18 at the minimum. The shell I am in came about 20 mins from a clear with 21 people. So if you have the right mix of jobs, everyone has their A-game all the way through, and there are no wipes I'd say it could be done with 18.

It's hard to keep everyone that focused for 3 1/2 straight hours though. Since you have to do non-stop pulling.

A *complete* clear with 18? That'd be damn impressive. Maybe you just mean a win, rather than killing every mob in the zone?

My shell usually completely clears Bastok and sometimes Sandy but we have more like 40 people, maybe even a bit more.
