  • Gaining NPC points question

I was trying to make leveling in Bostaunieux Oubliette a little safer. I was having problems because Aspics Slimes would uncharm when a VT werebat has 10% hp left. I died 3 time because I couldnt charm it again or I charm would charm the Aspic Slime just in time to get killed by the bat. It dawned on me that if I use my NPC it could do enough damage to kill the were bat so I can use Leave.

My question is would I get NPC points (from the guy in Jeuno) for leveling with my NPC or does the mobs need to be at a level which would give my NPC exp? I am a level 53 BST, my NPC is level 68, and the werebats are from level 54-57 (I think).

I would like to fullly upgrade his time extension and buy him some exp scroll until I am able to get to a high enough level as BST for him to get exp from the mobs im leveling from.

I'm pretty sure you get points just for having the NPC out and fighting. You'd probably get more points for fighting mobs they'd get XP from, but just calling & fighting should get you some points regardless.

      Re: Gaining NPC points question

I think my NPC was getting EXP "level sync style". I used him twice and he went from saying the level 1-20% exp sentence to saying 20-40% sentence.

I forgot bats are weak to piercing damage and I switched my NPC from Great Sword to Pole Arm (it was before they fixed the AoE WS). So he would steal hate at least once a fight from my pet slime. He was doing 40-87 damage a hit and 100-130 for crits. He died 11 fight in because 1/3 of the way through a fight he Penta Thrust a VT Werebat for 426.

On another note, I can see why BST were pissed about the update the made beasts despawn if they were outside of there roaming area. The slimes I was charming roam the entire waterway and does not despawn when you "Leave" them. They regain half of there HP in 4 ticks. I can only imagine how fast it was to level as BST before the update.

They gain a trickle of XP the entire time you have them out, whether you're doing anything or not. I've seen my NPC level while we're resting for MP, while we're running from aggro, all kinds of stuff.

Are you sure it wasn't just from the last mob you killed? Because they don't typically level up until 10-15 seconds after you killed the mob that gained them the level.

We'd been /healing for several ticks when it happened. So if it was from the last mob, that's a much longer lag than 10-15 seconds.

Well what personality does your NPC have? Mine can be a ditz and might forget to let me know that she leveled like 3 mobs ago? Mine hasn't leveled in a while so I havn't gotten to see it lately. I even was camping Ose many different times for friends and myself. I think mine is 60 or 61 now, I know I flagged the NPC battle for the last level break anyway.
