No, there is no official DiV IRC channel. We had one in the past but it wasn't really used often. There have been several people asking for another one to be made so if everyone is really interested PM your friendly admins.

The problem with IRC is that very few people (except tech heads) even know what it is anymore. I think I find it most oft used outside the US now. In practice, it started dying back when YIM, AIM, and MSIM came out since you can make your own rooms there too.

The real problem is that if everyone is in a chatroom, that sort of discourages the use of the forums. We could have a chatroom in any format, but it would still have the same problem.

Many DiV members do have IM info in their profile, or will provide it if you PM them, though.

IRC was nice back in the day, but more modernized chatting services seem to have replaced it in mainstream internet usage. Now everybody has a fucking facebook or twitter so you can see when the last time people wiped their ass was. Great!

This is btw the most succinct description of the Twitter service I have ever seen. Of course, Twitter is now hard-wired into CNN, so every idiot and their brother can "Twit" themselves onto CNN.
