I'm on CoP 6-4 and I noticed FFXIClopedia's article on the mission mentions that NINs may want to consider using Jack-o'-Lanterns for food, since the Arcana Killer may supposedly proc on U/O. Since I hate banking on an unquantified bonus, I decided to test the proc rate.
Test Conditions:
Defender: Lv.75 PLD/RDM
Defender CHR (in case anyone wants to know): 66
Attacker: Chaos Idol, Lower Delkfutt's Tower
Data:
Number of swings (landed or missed) and intimidations in the chat log: 334
Number of intimidations: 16
Number of swings: 318
Analysis:
Before we proceed, it should be noticed that the mob's Double Attack needs to be taken into account; the number of hits/misses/intimidates in the chat log isn't the number of attack rounds that happened since Double Attack adds extra hits, and a mob can be intimidated on an attack round that proc'd DA, preventing 2 hits instead of 1 as well. So, based on what we know, we have two formulas:
(Number of Attack Rounds) * (Intimidation Rate) = 16 Intimidations
(Number of Attack Rounds) * (1 - Intimidation Rate) * 1.1 Double Attack Rate = 318 swings
The first formula is straightforward, the second basically says that the number of swings (hits or misses) that would occur is equal to the number of attack rounds that didn't proc Arcana Killer (hence the 1-Intimidation Rate), plus the extra hits from DA (hence the x1.1 from DA).
Anyways, solving the first formula for Number of Attack rounds yields Number of Attack Rounds = 16/(Intimidation Rate). Plugging that into the second formula, we can solve for Intimidation Rate, which is 0.0524 with these numbers.
Bottom line: Arcana Killer from Jack-o'-Lanterns has a 5% proc rate.
Personally I wouldn't rely on 10 Evasion and 5% intimidation rate on a mob that hits like a truck. Defense food (especially Pescatora with its HP bonus) seems like a far more reliable choice for fighting U/O.
EDIT: Boring as hell test, I know. I figured I'd post it since I haven't posted anything in a while, and for the sake of posterity I guess. If you guys are lucky, I'll test if healing yourself via Potions gives the same hate as Curing yourself for the same HP amount. It would be interesting if true, for NIN tanks.
