  • Routine Disconnects

Hi. Ive been playing FF11 for about a week now, and it seems like after ive been logged in for 2 hours or so, i get disconnected.

From this point on i continue to get disconnected every hour.

If some one who has solved a similar problem or knows where I can find a solution, it would be greatly appreciated.

I am playing ff11 on my PC.

    Thanks!

    Re: Routine Disconnects

First thing I have to ask, is there a wireless link between your computer (or console) and the internet?

If the link gets disrupted long enough for your client to see a "no route to host", you WILL get a disconnect. The only way to fix that is with copper. And in these days where almost every house on a street is using wireless, interference is a way of life. Also, microwave ovens and 2.4GHz cordless phones can interfere with your wireless.

(I suppose going to 802.11a could work, since it's in a different frequency range, but then you have to go out of your way to get the right equipment.)

I have to state the obvious but did you remember to switch the auto-disconnect off?
If you're using wireless have you tried using an ethernet cable instead and do you still disconnect?

My computer is directly linked to my router (the router is a wireless router tho, not sure if that is relevant), and im pretty sure microwaves and phones arent interfering.

Its strange because its only when playing extended lengths of time with this game. Other games it does not happen at all to me.

I have a feel that its probably just due to increased internet activity. I share the my connection with two other people that do use a wireless connection, and the disconnects ( through still occuring) seem to happen less when they arent online.

Yea, auto-disconnect is off. The disconnects occur also when im playing in addition to being idle.

          You're probably right with this.

A friend of mine used to play fine until they bought an Xbox 360, suddenly her playing FFXI + her brother on xbox live made her keep losing her connection.

<< 360 with 2 pc's. I play ffxi on the 360 while 2 other ppl and playing around on the internet. I never have had a issue. It seems like a valid point and the correct answer to the problem but may I ask.....What internet service do you have and what speeds?

(I work for Comcast so I am interested, sorry)

What router are you using, and how is the router set up? If one of the users on your router is a bit torrenting and they didn't cap upload, that will make you disconnect.

where is your router physically located? I had a problem with my router overheating, and it would do something similar to what you describe. with that much traffic it's bound to be working a fair bit, I'd try elevating it and leaving room underneath for air flow, touch the case when it's kicking you off and see if it's getting hot.

I have a Linksys router, and im not sure how its set up.

I have had issues in other games (such as starcraft) in which i have been unable to host games due to the possibility that my router isnt set up right. The ports or something are not all open. I have tryed to fix this in the past following online tutorials and have been unsucessful.

overheating doesn't seem to be the issue, its in a fairly open space and stays quite cool.

I'm going to try and adjust the settings on my router. I think that might be the problem, thanks for the help every one.

Unable to host sounds like the ports are being blocked from the router. Best way to fix/try to log in the router and set the DMZ to your PC ip address. Or you can look up the ports that need to be Forward to your PC.
