      Re: Awesome moments in FFXI.

Supertanking stuff usually works a lot better than kiting stuff from what I have seen especially if the mob being kited doesn't really have any very deadly TP moves. To most people "kiting" seems to mean "Running around in circles while the mobs hits them a lot and occasionally cast gravity or bind". It's a shame that people seem to think that kiting is the only viable strategy in some missions. I had a CoP 2-5 fight called off for that reason. The RDM leading complained that he was "the only kiter" and called it off despite the party also having 2 SMNs.

      To stay on topic:

I once saw Satimasu hold Bloodtear Baldurf for some time on his BLM for someone who needed the shield from it. I can't remember how long it was for but I remember thinking it was one of the coolest things ever as a newbie Lv20 WHM XD

        Re: Awesome moments in FFXI.

Speaking of DM (It may have been my 4th as well, was 4th or 5th run) omg that one time...

I'd never done it starting with taru before, but we ran in to decimate him and it was all gravy from there. I'm still not entirely sure how we pulled it off, but we smacked down the Taru, then Mithra and then the Galka all the while 1 of our Ninjas soloed the Hume. Only had like maybe 4 or 5 people die. (I forget who was kiting EV the entire time)

Then came the best part. Poor EV... we charged that bitch and leveled her in like 10 seconds flat, poor thing didn't get to use either 2 hour it was amazing O.o

I'd never blitzed ANY NM like that before as a group, especially not her. It was a stark contrast to the last time I'd faced that bitch.

My other DM story is not so spectacular save for 1 thing that was hilarious. We had lost 1 of our members because she was bitching we didn't have enough BLMs... (she was one of 2 IIRC) and when we won the damn thing we all sent her a /tell mocking her for being so conceited and unwilling to try. =3 dumb ass woulda gotten her earring if she'd only stayed. Oh yah, and we even had a few DRGs in the PT

          Re: Awesome moments in FFXI.

Ah, I just remembered my own DM. I was the main tank because I was the only PLD (out of three) that didn't have Crimson Cuisses, so the other two kited. I think I was the only member didn't die (save for the planned wipe after killing two of them.)

What was awesome is that we finished with 30 secs on the clock. We only had like 5 people alive by the time we got to TT and like 3 or 4 of them were weakened, but we knew if we didn't rush him right then and there we weren't gonna finish on time. Somehow we won.

Semi unrelated but DM has been the most epic/hard-fought story-related battle I've ever seen. But then again I haven't reached Ultima/Omega.

            Re: Awesome moments in FFXI.

Yes, even I've managed to rack up a few Crowning Moments of Awesome in my time.

While doing the Airship fight, we had come to the last in a series of attempts for the night, and we were getting kinda on edge, wanting to finish off the fight. Well, we get all the way to the second Weapon, when we notice we're running low on time. Well, we decided to push for it anyways, since we had already gotten it to below 10%. As time is ticking away, so are the % points. It finally came down to the Ninja hitting his Mijin Gakure to kill off the Weapon with 1 second to spare. That was a rush and a half.

Another CMoA involves back when CoP was newly released. A friend of mine and I decided that to break the boredom, we'd go adventuring and exploring, since that's what we, as players, were supposed to represent anyways. Our target of exploration: Pso'Xja. We were just gonna go down there to see what we could find, and how tough the mobs were. So a spelunking we go. We're just messing around, killing random mobs, laughing at the sheer volume of Mimics, and generally getting lost, when we come across the Blue/Green Bracelet/Doors setup. Well, having no clue what they were for, we just started to mess with them, when we figured out how to get the bracelets, and that by getting them, we inadvertantly unlocked the doors for ourselves. Ok, cool. More to explore. Well, the night went on like this, and eventually, we explored Pso'Xja fully. It wasn't until afterwards the next day that we realized that we had just completed a CoP Mission about 2-3 Chapters in advance. Just the two of us. With no guides or anything. We found this out when a group in the LS, that had been that far in CoP, mentioned that's what they were up to when they were down there themselves, and were having toubles. The two of us just had a good laugh that day.

While my Close Encounter of the Absolute Kind wasn't as awesome as me telling AV "No" to Meteor like Aks was, I did enjoy (and have even sigged, you may have seen a few years back) knowing that no matter what happened before or after, I always have proof that my Evasion is so badass, even AV has a hard time hitting me.

Then the screen shot afterwards of AV oneshotting pretty much every endgame LS on Kujata (at the time) all at once. Paragon, Demo, TheBlueCrew, JourneysEnd, PurpleReign, everyone. The lulz escalated as more and more people showed up, endgame or not, and the people that were hardcore EG lost out to the masses as general revelry was had by all as we launched people at AV, and generally had a field day with him.

A Swift Belt run ended in failure due to people bouncing because they were pussies, but I still managed to steal away with a CMoA at the end anyways. It had come down to us going after the Mithran Fomor, since those were the only people who had hate, and it would prove to be the one and only run of the Mithran that day for us. People got lost, people got bitchy, people got dead. Standard procedure. At any rate, we finally got to pop the bitch, only to have people DC in the middle of the fight, and people bloodaggroing the other Fomors that deciced to pop in the room. Needless to say, it got messy fast. What was the CMoA, however, was the fact that as people dropped, so too did the other monsters interest in us, and eventually it came down to three Mithra: a THF/NIN, a BLU/THF, and me on DNC/NIN. After the BLU ran out of MP (until then, she was an invincible wall of death), she fell out, and it was down to me and the THF. I must day, you don't really appreciate Haste Samba until it's the main thing keeping you alive. The Thf and I were desperately stabbing the shit outta this thing, until it eventually forced the THF to Perfect Dodge. You see, the two of us stabbing had gotten it to about 6%, and there was hope we were gonna actually pull this off. Well, the THF PDs, gets set up, and I use this time to stock up on the inevitable spamming of Curing Waltz that I was gonna have to do. Well, PD drops, and, unfortunately, so too does the THF. So it's the Mithra Fomor and myself. I was doing well to hold her off, surviving (I had gotten her to 4%), and I would have eventually won, however, she pulled that "Kill TP" move. My answer? Tance! (Nssst nssst nssst nssst nssst....) Well, as soon as I pop Trance, I felt that's exactly what I had entered, as I put on a light show that neither my group not myself will forget for a long while, and the fomor couldn't do anythign to me that I couldn't simply ignore. I guess SE's been to the techno clubs and tried the xtasy there. Of course, as I said in the beginning, this run ended in failure. Trance (and my high) drops, I had stocked up enough TP to pop one last Dancing Edge, and the Fomor eats my TP agian. I die at 1%, and everyone had lost RR by this point. We lose, and give up, but I walked away with several tells and congrats on the awesome light show, and convinced more than a few people that Dancer might just be worth something after all. They also agreed that had I the TP/FMs, I'd have won. Oh well, at least it wasn't my Codex we used.

Another Dancer-related CMoA, I figured out that Dancer can break a 500 point latent weapon in 3 hours. On average, I've heard those things taking upwards of 3 days for other jobs (sans Samurai, for fairly obvious reasons). Go figure. Well, I have a nice Heart Snatcher for my efforts, and that saved me a few gil. Time to be not lazy and get Evisceration in about an hour and a half.

              Re: Awesome moments in FFXI.

One of my favourite awesome moments was the SMN AF2 fight, Class Reunion.

Me as a 65ish WAR/NIN and my 50ish BRD friend against SIX sapling NMs, aka Dryads.
After his Soul Voice + a few songs + a lullaby to get started, I started hacking away. The lullaby didn't last too long, and neither did my BRD friend. I had managed to kill maybe one of the Dryads before he died, and after that it was pretty crazy.

Bloody Bolts + some lucky/well-timed shadows kept me alive long enough to finish them all off, which actually took a while.

Definately one of the hardest fights I ever had in the game. Made me feel great to be able to help out my friend and get him his AF. Especially doing it at that level, before Utsusemi: Ni.
