Heck, I'd like to see someone run this site without something blowing up every few months. As far as I know, Google only blew up the internet once, and they fixed it inside an hour.
Is that something like a Google version of a Chuck Norris joke?

It's more like a "why can't you guys suck. You know I love you, but suck less please." joke.

            And I'm not sure it's a joke.

Am I alone in not understanding the joke (if that's what it is)?

                  Re: ffxionline blocked?

Hi...I just wanted to let you know that this site was indeed hosting a malicious trojan which intention was to steal FFXI accounts.

Unfortunately I was victim to this on the night the attacks began. I think so because it was not blocked by google at this point...

My brother was having problems re-installing FFXI after a long break, so I googled and came to a forum post here:

                  71595-trial-install-error (since I can't post links)

It wasn't exactly what I was looking for but I didn't know that until I had viewed the post. I didn't notice anything download (stupidly I *was* using IE though).

The next day our accounts became compromised, and google flagged ffxionline.com up as a threat. Listing the trojan I had found on my PC has coming from this site. I do not use any 3rd party software. (Long standing players of almost 6 years)

The trojan was sending information back to hn.kd.ny.adsl which you can trace back to Bejing, China.

We are in the process of trying to get our characters back... but we're pretty certain they've probably both been stripped, and while I put a block on the accounts, they still managed to server move mine T_T.

All hope is not lost however.

SE can retrieve everything for you, just tell them what happened.

This site has never hosted any harmful software. There are no banners or other external ads and we certainly don't host them internally for any reason. PiNG is hyper-sensitive to site security.

You may have clicked on a link that sent you to another site with a virus before we (the moderators) could zap it, but aside from controlling what new posters can or can not do and removing any inappropriate links once they are discovered, there's little else we can do.

As mentioned previously, a rollback is probably your best bet.

                        Re: ffxionline blocked?

Hello there... thank you for your replies.

I wanted to say that I know this site is legitimate. I have lurked on this site for information since before the game was released to the American public in 2003. I am just a very private person and do not post.

My intention was not to accuse this site, but to let others know that this terrible thing had happened.

If it has happened to us, then more than likely others were victims too.

I am not located in America, using American codes, and am in the long process of getting our accounts returned to us.

They wanted passport/driving license pictures along with registration codes, which have been sent to them.

Sorry to hear what happend, Like i posted earlier before it was a mistake from Google's part listing this site a Malware, attack site. their definition was it was installing advertising adware programs into visitor's computer. The chinese IP that google listed was no where to be found at all in any of the databases here, I brought that up with google and they immidiatly removed the site from the "Harmful Site List" without questions.

This site never hosted any password stealing malwares. I would highly suggest scanning your computer make sure your computer is clean from any trojans.

There's lots of memeber that visit the site daily, I my self use IE with no plug-ins to visit and work on the site. I never had any issues previously and even to this day.

I have even asked Google on telling me which pages were supposdly "infected", they just simply ignored all questions and just fixed the status.

In regards to the site being blocked, there was a little scriptlet at the top of the page that I saw a few times before Google blocked it. Since the new site has been up it hasn't been there, but today when I logged in, it was back. I have saved a screenie and this is what greets me whenever I go to FFXIOnline (I have also uploaded the error before the site was blocked).

Can you check which JS file it is? I have hunch, the only JS that was added recently was the Quote Selected, Javascript for sending highlighted data back into Quick Reply. Is there a file name that can be provided? Try viewing Source
