Was my original plan but it didn't work for some reason so I left those out. Thanks though.

EDIT: Seems Spoiler doesn't work very well in Chrome.

Cait sith rocks, I'm stoked. Is he riding his fat moogle?
Alexander and Odin were actually referenced in the CoP storyline.

Storyline Spoilers for Alexander and Odin

Cait Sith was actually a mob several times in the series before becoming an actual character. Cait Sith took on a more distinct appearance in Final Fantasy VI, which was the basis for his/her design in FFVII and FFXI.

Gilgamesh I don't consider a summon. He shows up whenever he damn feels like it, so you technically aren't summoning him. His first appearence, along with Atomos, was in FFV. They were both bosses before they were summons.

Gilgamesh is a recurring boss, so popular that they've actually retconned him as a special boss in some of the remakes of older games. He's often accompanied by a dog called Enkidu, but in FFXI Enkidu is a golem-type mob found in sky. Gilgamesh and Enkidu most recently appeared in FFXII, in something closer to their original forms.

Some standard mobs in FFXI appeared as summons in FFIV. Rydia was able to learn more than just the standard summons (re-dubbed "eidelons" in the DS version, similar to FFIX). Meeting the right requirements, she could summon Goblins, Flans, Bombs and so on.

Ixion was only in FFX before FFXI, displacing Ramuh as the summon of lightning. In mythology, Ixion is a man who murdered his father-in-law by pushing him into a fire. Somehow he was invited to meet Zeus and tried to seduce his wife, but Zeus had tricked him with a magic copy of his wife and together they parented the race of minotuars. I guess that's why he's a horse. Zeus eventually punishes him for his disloyalty and murderous ways by casting Ixion into Tartarus and having him bound to a wheel of fire that never stops spinning. Fire seems to be his recurring element in myth, so I have no idea why he's affiliated with lightning.

        Basically Ixion is weird.

Cerberus did originally appear as a summon in FFVIII. He's brothers with Hydra and Khimeria. I always found it odd they were referred to as "kings." Cerberus is the guardian to the gates of Hades or Tartarus. They can never really decide which he's a guardian of. Tartarus is an abyss-like prison in Hades. Cerberus frequently appears in the Shin Megami Tensei games, typically affiliated with a heroic character, sometimes as a boss.

I know too much stuffs o.o/

The one summon I can think of that hasn't been mentioned here yet is Phoenix. Phoenix is one of the five terrestrial avatars along with Carbuncle, Fenrir, Diabolos and Bahamut; it never actually shows up, but plays a large role in the CoP storyline without being physically present.

Oh, and there was a summon called Kirin in FFVI I think, but there's relatively little resemblance to the HNM Kirin in FFXI, aside from being different takes on the same mythology.
Defeated: Maat, Divine Might, Fenrir, Kirin, Cactrot Rapido, Xolotl, Diabolos Prime, Kurrea, 9/10 Dynamis Bosses (missing Tav), Promathia, Proto-Ultima, Proto-Omega, 4 Jailers, Apocalypse Nigh, 6/6 Nyzul Bosses
          RDM90, PLD90, DRG90, COR90, SCH90, BLU54
All Nations Rank 10, ZMs & PMs Complete, AUMs Complete, Captain, Nyzul Floor 100 (5 Weapons, 4 WS), Medal of Altana, WotG Mission 15, 1/3 Addons Complete, 9/9 Abyssea Main Quests, 6/6 Caturae
