  • So what's the deal with linkshells?

I've been learning about the multiple aspects of this game so in doing so I came across the Linkshells. Although it seems that alot of them are not being used to their full potential if used at all. There seems to be no activity on most of the servers with the linkshells shown on the site.

Are they really being used all that much?

I would appreciate any other information about them as well.

    thx

Linkshells are bigger than what that site is showing you kiddo! Linkshells are extremely active and usually its the best way a lot of endgame groups communicate (unless they use Vent or some other voice service). I have two social shells, one which branched into Sky and the other which focuses on Nyzul and CoP stuff.

So yes, they are HIGHLY used as a way of communication, or for organizational purposes. For a good example, my social shell on Quetzalcoatl, TheArtofWar, is a social shell of 100+ members from the US, UK, Canada, and Australia LOL so theres always members at any given time.

Re: So what's the deal with linkshells?

Well there are different types of ls's. There are social ones, ones that do certain events like Dynamis/Limbus/Einherjar/etc. and ones that are for all endgame activities including camping HNM's.

Not all ls's "advertise", most just go by word of mouth. Some you might even have to put an application in for. I've found that the more active ls's are usually for higher level (50+) players. But there are a MASSIVE amount of ls's in game, at least on my server. You just have to play the game, be respectable, make friends, and start asking your friends about their ls's. Thats usually the way you get in one. (Some ls's do shout in places like Jeuno and Whitegate for members but I do not join those type. They usually have a high turnover rate.....and thats really not a good indication of a stable ls.)

What site? That Linkshell Community thing? Nobody appears there unless they sign themselves up to it. And the only thing I've found it useful for is knowing stats of other players in the LS. The few who have signed up for it, that is.

Yeah thats what I was looking at. I wanted a good idea of how they were used so I checked it out.

The LS site thing (like many others) was introduced way too late into the life of the game, so by then Linkshells had already solved their needs on their own.

Which is probably why most LS simply ignored SE on that one.

A guy tried to offer me one...and it seemed like he was trying to petifile me or something..."Hey kid...want a Link Shell? Lets go back to my car and i'll give you all the Link Shells you want!"
              Anyway...sorry...thanks for the info!

A linkshell is nothing more than a chat channel.

You equip a link pearl for the linkshell and you can chat with other folks who are in the same group, basically a chatroom for you and your friends.

On the subject, the LS is a chatroom which is accessible using an inventory item. The item is controlled by the people who own the origin item, and thus allows them a degree of control in saying who can use the group. This also allows people to easily form long term groups, for instance static parties. An LS can be a group of three or four people who just want to be able to have conversations without having to form a party, or a more organized collection of dozens of individuals with a common goal of doing ingame events like Dynamis. and anything in between.

Well I would...trust me, I do mispell words here and there, but you gotta admit they aint as bad as others.

Also...I'm actually on my phone...If I could, I would have some sort of spellchecker. Usually it does fix my small mistakes, otherwise it's just lazy...

Thanks for pointing out my defects in life, though!

I've been in quite a few Linkshells in my time. Most have fallen apart due to drama. -,-' The one I am in now has a little drama here and there, but the LS leader (Amonsnake) is really friendly and helps us get into events and such. Good times in the CrimsonKnights.

I also own my own linkshell just for my IRL friends so we can chat and such amongst ourselves, even if we're in a party or with others or just doing our own thing. I call it TheFairyPantherKing. And since I'm the leader, that makes ME......The Fairy Panther King. ^.^

A linkshell is a guild. Very easy to understand if you've ever played any MMO. Except in FFXI you can be a member of multiple guilds and just switch by equiping different LS.
