  • What would you do if you knew something that didn't appear to be widely known?

It's no secret to all on these boards that I've been experimenting with crafting, choco digging, HELM, and gardening in order to make money. The thing is, I've found some interesting things that can be made into a pretty decent money maker from all of them and none of them seem to be widely known or discussed. Some of them are known, but I do them differently for as much as or possibly more gil. These things may not be discussed because they are decent money makers, or they could just be not well known.

Now my issues are that yes I do like many of the people on these boards, so when I hear they have money issues I want to tell them what I've found so that they can try these ways if they want. This is also a MMO so I feel like I want to spread the info a bit.

On the other hand I can liken these things to say, if I knew how to find a particular item or NM, would I be telling people while I could still make money off of it or would I wait until I was done with it?

Then too if too many people start doing these then it floods the markets, and do I really want that?

So yeah, a little curious about what other people would do in a similar situation.

Hate to be the jerk, but I'd keep it a secret. It's not going to stay a secret, as someone else will figure it out eventually, after all, you did. Niche markets are something that you have to try to keep cornered if you can, because once the normal players know about it, the RMTs know about it, and they will drain every last bit of profit out of it until there is none to be had.

The only reason I'm open about how I make my money is that RMTs(hell most normal players for that matter) don't have the caliber of gear to solo Sky NMs and such for gil.

      Keep it to yourself.
Congradulations! You've found a niche market!
      Be happy, make gil, prosper!

My niche market isn't niche at all, desynthing Antican Pauldrons suck ass. That's why I'm so poor!

Soloing as SMN/THF to farm Anticans are pretty good though, you don't really get into that much trouble with adds, since you can just /release your avatar. Fenrir ftw.

As much as I like to hear about new ways to make munniez, I personally would keep it a secret for now. Tell a few ppl if you want, but why spoil an otherwise decent, and apparently unknown, money maker?

For awhile, my LS mate and I farmed the hell out beadeaux and we'd sweep 50-60k/hr. That was good until RMT and other players caught on and now I'm lucky to catch a time when there's no one out there farming.

So this is how it would work for me...

I'm always dirt poor so I'd keep it a secret cause I'd want to rake in scads of gilz for myself. Then I'd start making some gil and feel guilty because a couple people I knew were poor and I had this advantage. So then I'd tell a couple people and feel better but those couple would tell a couple or post on some huge forum or yadda yadda and next thing I knew everyone would know the secret and I might have made a couple hundred k but far from the "scads of gilz" I had intended.

Yep...thats how it would go for me. Usually do the same damn thing irl too. Guilt is a bitch.

I'd tell the people I care about that I game with. That comes down to a pitiful handful.

My brother, his best bud that's our third man in our trio, and if my boyfriend still played, then him as well. That's it. Everyone else, I couldn't care less. We're always so strapped for gil, even when we're working together to farm that it's pathetic. (By working together I mean whoring my brother's Thief. lul) So no. No share past the people I actual care about.

Depends. If it might be classed as an exploit, like an item that you can buy from an NPC and then resell back at a higher value, ask a GM. Otherwise, someone will almost certainly catch on eventually, so use it while you can.

Only thing I'd say here is that if it would be a major change to the game, you should share it; for example, some obscure fighting mechanic that could speed up partying or something. But since it's probably just some product only you farm, I would keep quiet about it; starting from before you started this thread. Someone is probably bored enough to keep an eye on you and see what you're doing now.

I would share the secret with one person from each other server, that way it would not effect you, but at the same time you help someone else. I would also share it with true friends, that you can trust the secrets to.

The problem with that is that those other people WILL blab. If you tell thirty other people, and ONE of them takes it and posts a guide on KI or BG or Alla to get credit for it, it goes back to your server and you're screwed out of your cash.

You can't keep cabals of knowledge with people you don't even know like that. Even if you could, it's so risky it's just plain stupid to do. If you want to tell other people, tell everyone; otherwise keep it to yourself and keep it relatively safe.

Exactly. I'd trust a "secret" like this with maybe one other person, and he's been my best friend for 13 years. Plus I actually know where he lives and what his real name is.

True story: Way back in the day when Archer's Rings dropped from Stroper Chyme, a band of Chinese RMTs that dominated the NMs randomly invited me and a buddy when we were there hunting chest keys for the RSE quest. They went on to teach us via broken English how the Chyme ToDs worked and the cycle the ran to keep the pops in the order they liked to maximize their claims.

We came back with our whole LS about a week later and ran them clear out of the zone for the next few weeks until they gave up, we only ever got one ring to drop but we made a decent chunk off of it at the time.

Moral of the story: keep that shit a secret, lol.

Another little tidbit to go with that story: If you think people will treat you better than RMT, don't.

My general view, is that this is one of those instances where unless you want everyone to know what you said, it's best to stay quiet. If I tell a friend, then they'll tell a trusted friend who'll tell a trusted friend, etc. So if I'm not going to shout it from the rooftops then it's probably wiser to not say anything.

As far as people watching me... Meh, let them. I do all of my main money making purchases and selling through several mules that not even my closest friends know of. I know all too well the power that comes with having full awareness of the consumer's buying and selling habits.

Yeah, sorry guys but I think I'm more or less in agreement with the people saying to be quiet about it. This stuff stays secret until I'm done with it.

It's fun to read all the responses though

                              Grandma in a stalker outfit simply does not compute. I'm not going to explode or anything cliche like that, I'm just going to go to bed as I am freaking tired and am staying up longer than I should. >.<;
