  • MMM Almanac

I know there's 2 other threads but I figured we should have a dedicated thread to discussing any and all findings.

This thread is not for debating/comparing mazes. If you want to do that go here.

    First off, here's the wiki entry;

Moblin Maze Mongers - FFXIclopedia - a Wikia Gaming wiki

and the current know list of runes

    Category:Maze Runes - FFXIclopedia - a Wikia Gaming wiki

There's still a few blank ones that we don't know the effects of but they're largely listed here.

Now, what I want to discuss is some of the factors, such as "Maze Stability" since Rune 101 (Was SE playing Fallout 3 by any chance?) is "Trial by Budget" which makes the maze cheaply constructed with low stability.

The hell does that even mean? Will you randomly fall down a pit? Will the maze collapse killing/ejecting everyone?

There even seems to be a rune that implies adding NMs.

    Anyway, on to my personal discovers so far;

    - The level of the enemies in the maze is determined by the lowest level member of the party. Confirmed today when I entered with a group of 75's and 1 lv 50 DRG, the mobs were all too weak. Prior to this I had done it with my friend who was 59 SAM where we were getting EP, and then DC when he hit 60 and finally DC - T when he switched back to his 75 PLD.

    - Forcers need to be fixed. As it stands, the temporary item that drops is only revealed after it's picked up. Best to leave it to a mage or tank.

    - The EXP you get from popping the hoard crate is based on the EXP accumulated from the enemies you killed leading up to it. Confirmed when I got 0 Limit Points today after clearing a run of nothing but too weak elementals.

    - Enemies can in fact be charmed (Thank you Balfree for that tidbit)

    - Enemies are always randomly generated, though usually just 2 different enemies unless set by a rune (Though on our all elemntal run today we encountered Lights in the starting area and later Darks

    - I have no idea what the hell the "You hear an omninous rumbling in the distance" indicates. It seems to trigger when you cross into the final area of the maze. At first I thought it meant the next group of enemies would be higher level as this was the case a few times. But on our all-elemental run they were still too weak (though this could have been due to the 25 level gap)

    - Dieing in MMM does in fact subtract EXP. I haven't tested it myself but the Insurance Contract rune implies it since it "lowers exp lost in lieu of normal exp earned form enemies" or something like that.

    - Enemies in the maze will drop crystals and their normal drops as they would in the wild.

    - You can skill up in MMM and level-sync after entering if they are checking too low for the group's liking.

    - Soloing mazes is not recommended. Almost everyone I've asked about it has ended up with T or worse mobs being spawned and having their asses handed to them.

    - When you click the Horde Crate, everyone gets 15 marbles and EXP/LP based on kills up to that point. Since you can only order a maze once a day (wait for JP midnight for a new one) it's a very good idea to go in groups since Marbles are automatic and not pooled.

    - Runes have a rather low drop rate but I've heard of sometimes seeing 2 or more drop from the crate.

That's it for now, please feel free to chime in with your own experiences and info. I've got a nuclear wasteland to scour :3

I always thought "You hear an omninous rumbling in the distance" indicated that the cave was breaking apart.

    Maybe I'm wrong..

Yeah, the rumbling messages indicate that time is getting short. They become more frequent and alarming as you get near the time limit.

How do I know this? Because I tried to solo a maze as PLD/DNC. I didn't have any trouble staying alive against T clusters (well, the one that self-destructed twice in a row ticked me off a bit), but ran out of time because one person just isn't enough to kill that many DC-T mobs in half an hour.

I think soloing is out of the question unless you have the Weakness or Peon runes (although I don't have any of the *real* solo powerhouse jobs like BST).

If they're DC to T, BST sounds quite viable IF you get charmable mobs ... if they're all T, it's less so.

Anyone know if using weakness or paeon lowers the reward?

If it doesn't I'm saving my marbles then. I just picked up Trial by Velocity and I'm curious if I can use it in conjunction with weakness for an easy run (though Paeon would just rule) to rack up marbles.

I wondered about that myself, I think it would though.. otherwise people could just spam the weakness ones in conjunction with some easier monster families.

              Re: MMM Almanac

You don't lose exp for dying in a MMM. I've died in two mazes. One maze where we didn't realise that the aggro rules were the same as Nyzul since it was the first run we had ever done and I got swarmed to death by beetles and another where I had to magic aggro an elemental or lose the tank.

I used RR1 with each death and I didn't lose any exp. I died with 27,600 exp on my WHM71 and RR'd with 27,600 exp

Firewind, were you sure you weren't using the Insurance Policy rune on each run?

The only runes used on both runs were the two default runes you get from the NPC.

I also like how the first replies to it are ones going "ZOMG U MUSTZ BEZ RONG!" (wel Malacite's anyway) even though nobody have done any thorough testing.

But if you don't lose EXP, what the fuck is the point of this rune?

                          Re: MMM Almanac

I lost xp when I died tonight (FUCK POTS), though it's still probably a bit buggy so if you didn't lose xp, count yourself lucky.

So far I've gotten only one rune from five successful maze runs. First day, CK and I timed out on his maze, and then we got elementals in my maze and basically said fuck it. (THF and WHM no good on eles, if I had come RDM maybe we'd have had a chance.) Second day, three of us went, and we won all three easily. Today, CK's maze gave us ghosts and flesh mobs, and we timed out, and my maze gave us funguars and pots, and we wiped to the pots. Naturally after having my RR dispelled, of course. So I loaded up my ex-husband's account (since my mule account doesn't have WoTG yet) and we busted out two more mazes, one was a level 4 character, and the other was level 40 for a bit of variety.

The rune I got from that last one was 042 "Healing Magic" : Monsters which cast healing magic will be lured into the maze. Oh goody. Can't use it with my initial tabula, but if I can manage to get 100 marbles I'll try a different one out. CK and I have been having fun duoing them, we're sure we can do it most of the time if we get good mob combos. Trio is too easy. Might try dual boxing my ex's account sometime so we do have 3 people. We would have won my maze today but we got unlucky with a badly timed -GA ... none of my JA were up and I was pretty low on MP, and I couldn't finish the mob off even with my beastly (not) Hexa, and right before I ate dirt, say bye bye to Reraise 3 ... thank goodness for friends. On top of that, of course Silence wouldn't stick ... hate pots.

Mazes are a lot of fun. I've been watching threads on BG and checking the wiki frequently to try to learn as much as I can, so that we can really get some badass mazes going on. Can make for some good farming if you can get the right mobs in there, lol.

CK still thinks we'll be able to make mazes where Fafnir comes to play. I think he needs to read some of the forums, even if you do get to choose certain types of mobs, it still seems kinda random within that particular family. More testing needs to be done, but this will keep us entertained for weeks.

                            Re: MMM Almanac

I've only done three mazes on my 50BLM so far.

Level 40 with 2 friends, did that easy and got a few dark clusters.
Level 60 with 3 friends, did that one easy to.. got some lightning clusters.
Level 70 with 2 friends, timed out.

So the farming and skillup seems pretty decent in there. Not to mention it's fun!
