Job-specific inventory would be so hardcore it sounds almost like a dream after so many years of inventory slavery.
Come onnnnn, it's only 200k more. I can't stand the sight of NQ amemet. x.x 5 more attack for 200k seems reasonable to me.

I can understand though, people who don't want to get a genie weskit. It's hard to justify paying 3 mil for 1 more MaB than the 10k NQ.

I agree that 200k for 1STR/5 attack is a lot, though I view it differently. 200k for the 2nd or 3rd best possible option you can wear in that slot is not a lot, when you consider some of the alternatives. Forager's only adds another STR over Amemet+1 and costs double what AM+1 does. Cerb+1 is another STR over that and costs like 20m or something absurd like that. Relative to other options the 1 STR/5atk doesn't cost that much, especially considering that you can use it for pretty much every DD job including RNG/COR, and it will be about the best you can use in the slot for all of those jobs.

That was how I viewed it. I'm not sure Forager's was even in the game before I quit, though. When most other craftables had +1's that were several million more than the NQ and only added 1 maybe 2 points to a stat, I saw the HQ Amemet as a steal. Might as well drop the couple extra 100k and never really have to worry about upgrading the back slot ever again.

            /

My melee gear is pretty crappy too. But then again is not like I'm soloing anything beyond VT anyway.

I don't remember well, but I think what I have is around this:

(Note: There are tons of gear swaps for skill, mp, fast cast etc. this is just the gear I usually melee in, but it gets swaped a lot while fighting)

            Head > Ogre Mask +1
            Neck > Chiv Chain
            Body > Vishnu Jerkin
            Hands > Hume Custom Gloves
            Legs > W. Tights
Feet > Ogre (+1? dont remember)
            Waist > Warwolf (sometimes Life)
            Back > Amemet +1
Ear > Nothing that helps, need to work on Brutal and Loq. or something since Suppa is out of the question as it requires people to get.
            Ammo > Nothing useful either.
            Rings > Rajas, Ruby/Jeager
Weapon > Usually Mensur/Martial dagger (don't even mention Joy, but Blau is in the plans if I play again)
Shield > lvl75 (Tortoise?) one with high defense (Edit > Wait I think I was using that Mamool Ja shield or something with some stats that helped melee ever so slightly)

Man I'm already forgetting the names of things, not a good sign.

There are a lot of items I had in mind like PCC and others, but just thinking about all that farming and with no real way to do BC/KS etc. (can't believe how many seals I have rotting there without use) I got bored and started leveling other jobs instead. Add to that I can't play for more than 2-3 hours at a time (and came to really hate fishing) and you have a recipe for disaster.

The only consolation I have is even though my gear is so crappy I've killed many things other waaaay better equiped RDMs have been slaughtered by.

            After all, skill > gear...

...although having skill + gear would be nice if I had the time/patience for it.

Callisto's sentiments are heard, but not his examples.

I see nothing wrong with Jaeger ring (since I got mine, I view a woodsman as inventory -1), nor NQ amemet.

The problem will be rdm/blms (the melee update will make them refuse to ever use Cure, let alone /whm) meleeing in +INT rings and AF hands and sword/dagger skill 100 under cap.

If the update sends RDMs to the front for very brief periods of time (just long enough to hit 1-6 times, for instance), they shouldn't be expected to invest as heavily into melee gear as... well... a melee. Doing magely duties will probably continue to take precedence.

If it's an update that makes it so they can melee in more situations, well... I hope that's not what it's geared towards. Because then you'll be right. They'll need to put even more work into gear than true DD to earn the position.

Ugh. I don't want another DD.

I can see where he's coming from. The items he listed would be ok if RDM had the natural stats to be a frontline DD, but since it doesn't they really would have to go all out to make up for it.

Though as you said, if the idea is that RDM is briefly supposed to be swinging a sword then that does change the perspective a little.

That's true, but it's still not cost-efficient. That 200k can be invested into other pieces of gear that'll give you a bigger boost to your damage output for the same price. HQ Amemet is worth 180k in Midgard. That can pay for a Scorpion Harness (130k), Woodsman + Ecphoria Ring (120 + 50k), Spectacles/Chivalrous Chain (100/140k), Tarasque Mitts +1 (160k), Tiphia Sting (140k) or a Fomor Codex for a Swift Belt (100k in most Midgard Bazaars.) It also covers most of the cost for an Optical Hat (about 200k a cluster in bazaars, though you can buy all the eyes for MUCH less than that), one of the three DD Dusk pieces (270/340/390k), Ogre Ledelsens/+1 (35/100k). There's very few pieces of gear of gear that have such a mediocre improvement/investment ratio as HQ Amemet besides Assault Earring (which RDM can't wear) and, depending on your point of view, Blau Dolch.

In my opinion it's much better for a RDM to be toting around the NQ Amemet than for him to be missing one of the other pieces - especially considering that RDM has an Acc deficiency, and that RDM makes up for lower Attack (to a certain extent) with Enspell damage.

                        Re: Another Epic Dev-Team Interview!

Well obviously you should get them all, lol. And if you already have those Dusk pieces, a reasonable acc neckpiece, etc, then there's no excuse to not farm another 200k for the mantle instead of just settling for the NQ.

I've actually been getting back into melee RDM a bit more as of late since we're just kind of dicking around with lowman stuff until the server change, and really it's driving me nuts. Inventory restraints made me leave 6/8 of my staves in my locker just to bring most(not all) of my melee gear. I actually had to sell off a couple of melee pieces just because I didn't have enough room for them in my locker, so I'm down an extra 10 attack from having to WS in dusk hands/feet instead of Tarasque/Ogre.

Inventory frustrations aside, my damage is just lackluster aside from my Enspells. Death Blossom is fantastic for opening skillchains, but the more I use it the more I find the damage very lackluster on anything over EP. The occassional Vorpal crits really go further than I thought they did with low attack. I'm looking to retool my WS set to dump some Acc for Attack, but seeing as how I only use 3-5 hit WS' I'm skeptical about doing that.

And yeah kinda off on a tangent here, but I'm not about to start another melee RDM thread, at least not until this update comes and we actually see what they have to offer, lol.

Depends on what you're fighting, if there's no Piercing bonus it can be questionable, especially considering I have an extra 15 Acc/16 Attack with Swords from merits, even more if I'm /NIN and you put ESword stats on top of that. I also don't own a decent dagger, so there's that.

Callisto. You have a mule account, right?

Why not make a new mule on that account for storing your BRD (or any other job) gear, you'll only have to log that mule in once to trade all of it to that character, and it's a hell of a lot quicker than send > log off > log on > receive > log off > log on > send > etc.

I went through the trouble of getting mine to Whitegate, but depending on where you set your HP (mine is in Windy but I still keep that mule in Whitegate for other reasons) you wouldn't need to even move that mule from ... well ... anywhere. Even if you don't want to meet up with your mule you can still send/receive a lot faster when you have two accounts running so that you don't have to deal with the log on/off time.

I keep almost all of my WAR shit on my Whitegate mule now, and it takes me about three minutes to get it all onto my main. I keep all of my WHM RDM and BLM shit in my inventory/locker because I play those jobs all the time, but when I need gear for anything else, I can grab it with very little effort.

I do, but typically my mule is in Jeuno. Calli is HP'd in Sandy and I only go to Jeuno for Limbus/Dynamis soap, I could manage it, but really I shouldn't be forced to dump all my BRD gear to another character just to do some simple farming. They either need to come through with a job-specific storage solution, or possibly make some new instruments that cover multiple songs, like one that is +2 to both March and Minne or something like that, to make the job slightly less inventory-intensive.

I'm working on other little things here and there to make it easier too, a Gigant Mantle would go a long way since several slots of BRD gear are HP gear for Minstrel's latent forcing.
