Okay, about a year or so ago I made a thread similar to this one, and I didn't feel like necrobumping it, so I decided let's start one fresh. Again, let's try not to criticize but rather just share.

What are you planning to do with merits? What do you already have?

~Obviously, I've neglected the shit out of my RDM, though I got the important shit like Enfeebling Magic merits and at least unlocked Slow II. Need to work on that, but let's face it, I don't play RDM that much anymore.
~BLM is just in progress because I just finished it a month ago, should be done by the end of the year. Someday I might further merit Burst 2 and Freeze 2, but it's not important since it only adds damage to MB, and who the hell MBs anymore, anyway?
~WHM is done! Except for max MP merits, but that's not really a priority because I don't often run out anyway.

So everyone who spends all their time out meriting, what are you working towards as far as your merits?

I added up how much I actually need and /sadfaced hard over it since I don't get to merit that often(though I did get about 18 points over the Thanksgiving break).

The base stats cost too much for my taste, those are like waaaaaay down my list if I ever even bother with them, but probably some mix of STR/INT/AGI if I do. I need 35 points to finish COR before I can get to PLD, from there I'd need another 130~ to finish off PLD and BRD. Depending how good/badly my job hunt goes I may knock a good chunk of that down next month, lol.

These are, of course, subject to change. I'd like to finish WHM merits first, then WAR. If I get time I'll work on RDM merits, although I'm sure by the time I'm done with WHM and WAR merits, I'll have another 75 that I'll want to merit first (I'm looking at you MNK, NIN, or SCH...). RDM is just a solo thing for me any longer. It's a pity that my linkshell has so many WHMs and so few RDMs, 'cause I hate doin' the whole RDM thing in a PT setting (low-man stuff is ok, though).

I'm new to the whole merit thing but I got a decent plan of what I want to do. I just have to prioritize how I'm going to do it.

For War group 1 I plan to go 4/5 DA (currently 1/5) and go 3/5 for Zerk/Agg. I mainly use Gaxe (Perdue) so DA is supposedly the best path to go with it. For group 2 I want to go 5/5 Savagry, 4/5 War Charge and 1/5 Tomahawk, skipping over Aggressive Aim. Currently only have 1/5 WC.

On Thf it's pretty much the same deal. 4/5 Trip Att (1/5 now) and 3/5 Sa/Ta recasts (2/5 on each). For group 2 the plan is 5/5 Feint, 4/5 Aura Steal and 1/5 Assassin Charge. And much like Agg Aim, Ambush is pretty much useless and not worth losing Feint recast or Buff stealing.

Combat Merits will be 8 Gaxe, 8 Dagger and not sure to do with the last 4. I might go with Marksmanship because I use my Xbow heavily on both jobs and every little bit helps. There's no chance of me getting a Ridill (honestly, I wouldn't even try) nor do DW axes (no reason to, GAxe is far superior) so there's not much left to choose from.

And everything else will be basic Melee Merits, Crit+/HP/Str/Dex/Agi (eventually) etc.

Again, don't really merit much so I don't have all too many, but at least I know what I'll need.

I'm new to the whole merit thing but I got a decent plan of what I want to do. I just have to prioritize how I'm going to do it.

Best advice I can give is just to knock one thing out at a time. It drives me nuts trying to split points among jobs and have things half meritted on all of them, as opposed to just plowing through a full category. I did RDM > COR > Magic Skills > Combat Skills, at which point they added the expanded group 2s so I had to go back and revisit the jobs, but it's nice knowing that I don't ever have to touch Magic/Combat again if they don't up the cap further.

I put the merits into SA because overall I'd get more use out of that and TA can be lame due to parties not working with you well; but now i'm going to redo them into 5/5 TA just to be some sort of full out hate control thing since I have enmity+ anyway
would have gotten rid of AC for 5/5 AS too until I saw the thread about it still failing with 5/5 on KI
then I guess lolhp merits are a go?
