    Gessho would be awesome, and he fits in with the fighting style great. I can only imagine Shadow Lord as being a somewhat slow, big wide attacker as far as fighting styles go.

    Hey, and we never know, it could be Trion or Volkner for her opposite, simply because they're rival nations, now that would be pretty cool I think. :D

            Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't the name beside Shantotto's in those video clips, Hayashibara Megumi?

              Actually, the english equivalent of Megumi from Cowboy Bebop was already what I was imagining Shantotto sounded like = Faye Valentine. It fits.

                  I'm super excited about Shantotto, and I'm looking forward to kicking ass and taking names with her. As for a Villian, feel like the Shadow Lord is a gimme, because of the other villians in the game, none of them to my knowledge are as... popular(is this the word I'm looking for?) in the minds of players. Sure, expansion baddies are well known to those that play the expansions, but every player, if they've done more than 2 or 3 missions/quests have heard something about the Shadow Lord. The Shadow Lord has had merchandise made of him, and he just seems like the only real choice to me.

The Shadow Lord has had merchandise made of him, and he just seems like the only real choice to me.
                    Some people were complaining it was Shantotto and not someone cooler, and I think this is exactly why they picked her.

                    You don't need any expansions to get to know her, she's standing in a house in Windurst Walls that's open to everyone so you get to hear her arrogant, haughty laughter and rhyming speech from day 1. She's also involved in plenty of quests (newbie and high level alike), missions, and side quest cutscenes (who is it that gets sent from Windurst when the nations have a meeting for Ballista, among other things? That's right, Shantotto). She's easily recognizable and has a personality that stands out.

                    Plus, we have too many people meleeing the shit out of the Chaos side. Why toss in another melee when you have a character that's equally worthy of representing FFXI that'll play like a dedicated mage?

                    Using an expansion bad guy is needlessly spoiler-ish too. In the case of RotZ the bad guy's identity is kind of supposed to be a significant plot twist. Shadow Lord needs more love, it's too easy to rip him apart with 1-3 level 75's.

                      I think Lion would've been a much better candidate than shantotto if we're basing it off the fact that it should be someone thats in the mainstory. Shantotto is a charismatic figure and is probably more relevant to the plot than Lion, but atleast Lion isnt really representing any nation...

                        Lion would be cool but she isn't known for having any sort of combat prowess or abilities if you compare her to say Volkner, Trion, Gilgamesh or Shantoto. Heck even Pieuje could probably Hexa Strike stuff into oblivion if he felt like it.

                        Besides the vast majority of the people who haven't played the game would wonder why Rikku's name is spelt like that

                        I was thinking more of this. Not much point in being a a god really if there are no people left to worship you. If thinking that the planet could survive a meteor the size of a large moon colliding with it doesn't make you insane I don't know what does.

                        Besides if the novels and movie are anything to go by he probably unintentionally turned Aeris into a goddess.

                        Edit: And personally I always pictured Shantotto sounding similar to Rozalin from Disgaea 2. Can't remember who voiced her in English though but I couldn't stand the Japanese voice track in that game.

                            THANK YOU! Thank you for this! So many negative nancy's out there! I was very excited when I heard the news (and not because my taru is the same model ) because it will just be so cool to see some of the FFXI characters getting some respect. I thought for a while that they just thought the series went from 10 to 12 with nothing inbetween.

                              I stand by that there are few as deserving of this position as Lady Shantotto herself. I mean, people, look:

                              How can you not call that epic? She's getting her own expansion scenario, for crying out loud, and the subtitle even notices her legend status:

                                Ajido would have been awesome too. But I bet the animation for Shantotto is going to be hilarious, especially when she wins.
