  • Hello Im pretty new...

So I've decided since I use to play awhile ago, that I now have a new desire to play FFXI again. I got to like level 22 WHM/ 10 BLM or whatever. I wanted to know what the most populated or best server is that i could join. Any I like to do melee dps, what would be the best class I could start? THANK YOU!

    It's a forum, not a chat room.

Odin is the most populous server, but I can't say much beyond that.

If you want to melee, starting as WAR would be a decent way to go, since you'll want it available as a subjob option for pretty much any job you eventually settle on. Of course, what you start as has very little long-term effect, so screw around with MNK and THF while you're at it.

There is no rush. If you're not willing to take your time, don't be surprised when no one wants to give you much of theirs.

Damn dude, relax. No one here is at your beck and call.

"Best" depends on what you are planning to do. Certain jobs are better than others at certain things. All the jobs have a place somewhere, so really, just level what you like. If you do choose to start with Warrior, it will be a good start since it does become a staple subjob for pretty much every job.

As far as subjob for Ninja ... you'll almost always sub Warrior, until you reach endgame.

              Re: Hello Im pretty new...

Depends on your definition of "best."

Warrior is the best subjob for many situations for many non-support jobs. It's one of a few subjobs you should have available as an option for many more situations and jobs. It's an acceptable subjob for many other situations and jobs. If a job hits monsters with a weapon in a party, it's a good idea to have Warrior available as a subjob. The exception, of course, being Warrior itself.

What melee job is "best" for you isn't a decision you'll be able to make right now, even with a bunch of people coming in here talking about the pros and cons, which you could read in existing threads anyway. Talk is different from reality, and most of the jobs you won't be able to try out until you're level 30 anyway. By that time, you'll have a better grasp on the game and will be able to make better decisions about it. There are very few people who start the game with a strong idea of the job they want to play and then end up playing just that job. Most of us end up liking other jobs enough to level them in addition to, if not instead of, the jobs we thought we were going to.

Shhh!!! Don't ask that question, you'll start a job riot. Odin is the most crowded server and they called 2 weeks ago and said they didn't need any new members...

Tanking NIN should sub Warrior but could also probably sub RNG for DD (Throwing Shurikens) capabilities or BLM. At 75 I've seen NIN's sub Dancer but I have yet to see one use it in a party even though I'm sure they probably could work it very well. SAM will either /THF, /NIN, /WAR, /DRG, /RNG, or /DNC (Campaign). Depends on the SAM's level and what jobs they have leveled but benefits will come from having all leveled to 37.

The calculations needed for this are too many to list, but basically it depends on player skill level, gear/weapon choices, and job usage. Any job can be a superb DD but it depends on how that job is used by the player and what gear is used and factored into the character.

This x 1000. It's so variable there's no good way to answer this question. Even the same character can get totally different DPS numbers based on how they gear themselves.

Of the starting jobs, I think you might be best taking MNK to 18 ... WAR is a useful sub, but you need to unlock your subjob first, and MNK sounds like one of the jobs that might suit you well. That, and it goes well as a sub to the above-mentioned good sub to whatever you choose.

This thread maybe old and all...but it's still useful. Haven't began to play just yet and I'm trying to absorb all the info I can.

That's great! But you really don't need to tell us that you found the thread useful. Just sit back and bask in the glow of knowing that you found a use for something in the world.

                              Hi

If you are still deciding on where to begin, e.g. server, might i suggest the Remora Server. I have released a linkshell, which you might know more as a guild, where i have appointed many people from around the world, UK, US, Netherlands, Japan, French, etc. We all speak english and we are a friendly social linkshell that welcomes all players, no matter what their level. The linkshell name is theblackdragonclan. If you are interested seek me out, my player name is jamiefulton. If u cant find me seek out Jaydog, Elizar or Motosuwa as they can also invite u to join the Linkshell. When u have joined, we can and will help u (should u want it) with getting a higher level and further in the game.

Look forward to hopefully seeing you around
