Re: Level sync and skill ups, error or intended?

Personally, I found myself missing the skill points over cap from gear when I synced my BLM65 down to 62 to duo ... I must have lost 30-40 skill points doing so. I should keep a Philomath Stole for repetitions, +3 INT I get beats +7 skill I don't...

Re: Level sync and skill ups, error or intended?

On BLM it was very easy for me to re-cap things after the levels I spent synced with my boyfriend, so that wasn't really a problem. As for melee jobs, if you're syncing so many levels that it significantly hinders your performance, I'd have to say that you're possibly not using the level sync as intended. Granted, it's a lot of fun to xp with your friends, but I don't think they expected you to go from 10-75 in the Dunes, but that you'd probably spend a few levels at your own range, and a few with your friends. If you're doing it that way, it'll catch back up on its own. Eat accuracy food and you should be fine. Perhaps the rare level sync party would get you more than three levels (I'm talking about like, 50+ where performance starts to matter a lot more), and after one of those marathon parties I'd say you need to go skill up, but in most cases where I've level synced, I haven't even gotten one level, let alone several.

Old saying is "If it aint broke don't fix it" by making it so that you can gain skillups even at a small cap, in your case listed above 7 levels below a mob that you've capped on at 70, eventually people are gonna want to be able to do it at a rediculous gap. This is purely hypothetical. Say you were level 70 and went to fight mobs level 65 to raise skill. Not only would this make you more accurate @ Level 65 because at level 65 your skills weren't capped, it'll make you more accurate when you ding 71 and cap again and then go fight the mobs at level 71 that you would normally party on since you would be uncapped.

EDIT: I think this might've been the way that SE used to gauge how strong the mobs are they are counting on the fact that your skills won't be capped when you fight that mob and when they are at the next level it'll be easier to hit, and you'll do more damage. Its kinda in the same boat as this, IDK much about merit points since I haven't been 75 long enough to get any: if I had 16 points from 8 upgrades in Great Axe and then I ran into a party to fight mobs and then sync down with some friends to any level I'd have 16 more Great Axe points and at least 8 more accuracy and attack than I should have at that level but I don't think that you can do that but its pretty much the same idea.

^^BTW if it doesn't make sense I was rambling.
If I understand what you're saying, you're thinking that the skill-up system people are proposing would somehow push your current, level-sync'ed skill past the cap that it would be at if you were naturally the level you've sync'ed to. (What a twisty nightmare that sentence is.) That's not the case. I'm going to go on with an example.

Let's say you're actually level 30 WAR, and your axe skill is capped for level 30 (skill 93). You sync down to level 25. This caps your skill at 78 until the sync target levels. Then you level to 31. Your actual skill is at 93/96, but your current skill is still 78/78.

Now, if you're fighting mobs that are level 31 or higher, those are mobs that you would normally (as a level 31 WAR) get skill from. If the change suggested were implemented, you'd be able to get skill-ups so that your actual skill goes to 96/96, but your current skill is still going to be 78/78. Once the sync target levels to 26, of course you'd go up to 81/81 and so on.

If the strongest mob your sync party is fighting is level 31, and you end up leveling to 34, your actual skill would still stay at 96. Your current skill wouldn't budge from the cap imposed by the sync.

Personally, I don't see that as any more game-breaking than Level Sync itself. It would especially be nice for those cases where Level Sync is just used to increase the acceptable level range for forming a party (e.g., allowing a party's actual levels to range from 28-33).

But it's not exactly worth wailing and gnashing of teeth over that it doesn't work this way. There are always other ways to skill up, and sync parties can always be turned down.

Re: Level sync and skill ups, error or intended?

Good points all around, i guess some people make with the system as it is, and there are a few of us who use this maybe a little too much, and end up with a few problems down the road. For my part, id be perfectly satisfied if they can twitch it so we can get skill ups for our true level if the mobs are high enough, but if not, ill just make with it if its too much trouble to tweak.

EDIT: Thank you Ellipses, you've made that exactly as i tried to explain it from the start
