G5 fight, which is easier?

After years of playing, I've finally managed to get up high enough where I need to start thinking about the G5 level cap, and I'm torn. The two jobs that I have available with which to do it are WHM and DNC. I was just curious which fight people think would be easier...the WHM fight or the DNC fight? I've seen videos on youtube of both fights (as well as the clopedia pages), so I kinda get the gist of the basic strategies for both...but if anyone has any first hand experience I would appreciate some input and suggestions.

So yeah, WHM or DNC? ^^

I personally would take WHM, it's pretty straightforward if you take some time to buy and camp a couple of items. With a Earth Staff, Cheviot Cape, and Jelly Ring you can sit and take a pretty decent beating, from there just keep yourself alive. I don't know a lot about the DNC fight, but I know that WHM is relatively easy compared to most GK5's.

Is your Divine Skill capped?

Cap it.

Bring your AFv1 pants, a Divine Torque (they're cheap) and as much MACC gear as you can get your hands on, and Repose the sucker.

Buff up. Put up RR, SS, and Blink. Run in, Banishga (to wipe shadows, DO NOT CAST DIAGA!) then IMMEDIATELY cast Repose. If it doesn't resist, go you! Simply wait it out and rest, watching for the "Maat is no longer asleep" message so you can be ready to sleep him again. If it does resist, kite! And if you're going to die (which might happen) run toward the entrance. Pop Bene if you think you need to, but it'll be hard to survive his fists to your face if you're unable to get SS back up. Don't die in the room he hangs out, so you can get back up and try again. I died doing this fight but I got up once he was out of range, recast RR, SS, and Blink, and I got him to sleep, and he gave up shortly after that. If you do die, I wouldn't recommend waiting till you unweaken, as you do only have ten minutes for the fight.

So my recommendation is that you cap your Divine Skill. Besieged ftw. With a light staff, your AFv1 pants, a Divine Torque, and ... any other divine skill gear you can find (don't know if such gear exists before 70ish), plenty of MND and magic accuracy, you shouldn't have trouble landing Repose, though Maat is a cheating bastard.

As for DNC, don't know. Haven't leveled it out of the Dunes yet. But the WHM fight is very easy with the addition of this great sleep spell.

Maat doesn't aggro when you RR, even if you are right at his feet so it doesn't matter where you die.

Besides isn't the cure strategy much easier than fighting him?

No, because if you get interrupted you're in trouble, which is why you just sleep him for five minutes and you get an easy win.

I did WHM before Repose, and it wasn't exactly hard ... just keep running. If you need to cure, see if you can manage to wait for him to cast. I'd say to leave SS down when it drops using this method.

Of course, now, if the first Repose sticks ... there you are. Consider adding Slow and Paralyze if it does.

Do WHM, it's ridiculously easy. I did it as WHM66 and got it on my first go, didn't even have difficulties.

I did it as WHM66 2nd try (I screwed up first time). I didn't kite or anything and it was before repose. I just geared up defense and evasion, and casted Stoneskin, Blink (neither which lasted long), as well as Protect, Shell, and Aquaveil. Then I just stood there while he beat me up curing myself. I did get silenced once, but what self respecting mage (esp at that level) doesn't always have echos on them? I think I used Bene but probably didn't have to. Its very simple.

I have no idea about the DNC fight, though, so I can't say anything about that one.

Ya thats what people told me too. "Cap healing, have HQ Dark & Light staves, wear a lot of mnd shit and let him hit you a little then sleep/bind him and cure yourself." (before Repose) This was my advice from people back in the day. Let him hit me a little......he'd ASURAN FISTS ME!! ALL THE TIME!! I WAS ON MY TARU!! So with lovely sage advice like that, I didn't have a very good chance at winning. LOL

Ya the "lovely sage advice" was sarcasm if you couldn't tell. I guess it was back when things were still "new" though.

If you have Polearm levelled SAM can damn near one shot Maat by doing a Light self skill chain and I've seen a number of Youtube videos of WAR beating him in less than 2 minutes so I doubt they could be that hard.

I've not seen or heard anything about DNC's fight so I wouldn't know and from what I've heard WHM is pretty easy as long you drop about 100k on the gear for a single fight to make it easier. I unlock my G5 in 6 more levels so there goes my Noble's Tunic funds then.

That's the nice thing about gear ... buy it once and you have it until you sell it. If you think you'll want it later, feel free to hold on to it, but if you need the gil more, feel free to sell it after the fight.

I can only play this game on weekends so that give me what? 5? 6? hours per week to accomplish everything I need to get done so i doubt I'll even be getting close to 66WHM before christmas nevermind farming enough for the gear for the fight.
