I was kinda dragged out (kicking and screaming) for almost a year. I kept my character, and always wanted to come back. I came back about 5 months ago. Real world kicked my ass for a while.

I know another guy who was in school, who quit because of problems with his static and work. Who later came back and is glad he did. I always wanted to come back and was very happy that I did.

Seems that Real Life is actually {Impossible to gauge} after all.

I haven't really quit as such yet, just taking an extended break while playing WoW, but I can't seem to get into it.

I quit FFXI, found it hard to find partys on my server..... im tinking about coming back.. but i would like to pick a good server... can anybody help

I guess I'll add my 2 cents. I got FFXI a week after the NA release (Nov. 2003). At that time, I got my first job after graduating from college earlier that year. I worked from 8 AM - 5 PM Monday through Friday. I guess you could say that I played FFXI pretty heavily. Basically the minute I got home, I'd start playing and I'd quit around 1 AM. During weekends, I'd try to play as much as I could.

This carried on for a while. Because of my heavy play schedule, I was the 3rd NA person to hit 75 on our server. I was involved in end-game HNMs with Japanese players (Sky, King Behemoth, Aspidochelone, Fafnir/Nidhogg) by March of 2004. I continued to play religiously by helping my LS accomplish HNMs until I got really burned out by June 2004. My frequent playtime started to diminish. I found that I sometimes didn't want to play FFXI anymore because of the demanding end-game schedule.

Then the announcement of Chains of Promathia expansion was to be released in September. I thought to myself, maybe this is what I need. September rolled around and over the next month, I (along with other friends) beat all the available CoP missions as they came out. However, I was frustrated. I enjoyed the CoP missions but S-E would only release them a bit at a time. By November 2004, I realized that I didn't enjoy FFXI anymore and left the game to pursue other things.

During my 1 year break, I accomplished many things. Life was better. I hung out with friends & family, got into new hobbies, got a girlfriend for a while, etc. Then came I had a weird urge to play FFXI. However, I wasn't sure if my character would still be in FFXI (after all, it was a year ago). I contacted Customer Support at S-E and they told my my character was still there as I left it.

This time around, I'm playing casually. That's how I should've played. I'm not focusing so much time & energy into FFXI as I once did. I play it when I'm bored, but if there's something better/else I want to do, I'll go do that instead. FFXI can be very addicitive. For some it's an escape from life. For those trying to juggle FFXI & real life, you just need to manage your priorities better.

One thing is for certain. Do NOT go balls to the wall in this game. If you try to rush through it, you won't get any enjoyment out of it. That's the reason a lot of people end up quitting. They have to get to 75 ASAP and don't take time to look around, make some friends, and enjoy the game. You'll burn out too quickly.

Yeah. I was pretty bad back then. Kinda crazy then again... nowhere near as bad as some people I know.

I quit for about 6months just because I got board of the game, nothing was happening and it just didnt seem fun.
Im back on now and both my bf and our house mate have got characters so its much more fun now that I know someone .. even if they are level 19 and Im only level 12. LoL. Its still someone to talk to.
Im glad Im back now though I missed it really! LoL
