Hello everyone, first post on the boards but I have been lurking for a bit.

I have a question about .DAT files, does SE frown on people changing them? Will I get banned if I change them? Is it against the TOS to change them?

Technically . . . .DAT swapping is against the user agreement due to the simple fact that it changes your online experience in the world of Vana'diel. HOWEVER!! There is no way for SquareEnix to detect a player that is using a different .DAT. The .DATs you would like to use are renamed so that the system file will pull the information from the new file instead of the standard one that comes stock with the game.

Therefore... If you wanna do it, DO IT! I myself use ALOT of different .DATs from o.O.o Final Fantasy XI Dats o.O.o - Create | Comment | Contribute . However I would not admit to it during any sort of ingame chat (because GMs can read your logs and suspend or ban you based on that).

keep in mind that .dat swaps along the line of chest hacking may be easier for GMs to notice, and the majority of the playerbase will label you as scum.

But just giving yourself blue hair or an FF7 sword, sure, go nuts.

Thanks for the info, i was just wanting to add map labels and such, no chest hacking. and maybe try the red blood .dat.

I use a few .dat changes. One I changed all the crotch hugging gear into shorts, because i don't like how it looks, I changed my Blue Mage af into a darker pattern, but when the new stuff comes out i'll change it back, and I made my SH blue to match my af gear.
