    Kanican - AV Strategy

    Great post, but it only makes me happier that SE is adjusting AV. Holy crap what an obscenely complex strategy all for one NM @_@;

I'm all for epic fights but god damn...

    Re: Kanican's AV strategy

The thing about complex strategies is that they're usually not what was "intended" by the people who created the mob.

Most of the time, necessary strategies for boss mobs are simple in some way or seem obvious once you know what they are.

I, like a lot of people, am not expecting a nerf, but some sort of "timer" that either automatically despawns or causes AV to cast something like Meteorga IV that targets and kills everyone on the hate list followed by rapid despawn.

No, I think, once it is determined what SE was trying to show us in that video, that the strategy will seem mundane.

I seriously hope that they don't nerf AV and PW. Just restrict the amount of time you have to kill them.

Unless, of course, the battle is supposed to take some absurdly long time to do...in which case Bad SE. No fight in a video game should be slated for more than 4 hours.

Even with a few unlucky Astral Flows how did it take that long?

We do it in about 45 mins.

Yeah, I don't see the merit in going on several hours just for one mob. Change the time required, don't change the fight itself.

There's reasonable, intelligent difficulty and then there's unreasonable, artificial difficulty.

The former considers a specific strategy within a reasonable amount of time and challenge to complete. The latter just increases the size of HP bars, the number of enemies you face or the time it takes to kill something.

Good way of looking at it is Ninja Gaiden II. They botched the difficulty curve on this one. In the first NG on Xbox, you had a difficulty curve that was very challenging but not "we're throwing ten ninjas hurling exploding shurikens at you and you can't possibly deflect them all" challenging. Yet, that's Ninja Gaiden II right there. That was Team Ninja's great idea at increasing the difficulty and it was not the way they did it with NG.

I realize there's some reasons for NGII ending up the way it was, but the point still stands.

AV is NGII. We don't need to change the fact he's hard, we just need to trim down the inhuman length of the fight. He might not be tossing ten ninjas with exploding shurikens at us, but he's killing us slowly.

That is, if he doesn't Meteor, then he kills us quickly. I prefer that more, actually.

Maybe slowing him the fuck down so he doesn't move so fast so melee can actually hit him?

From what I can tell, windower is only used to help determine where this strategy can be put into place. So you could pull this off even with players who don't use windower.

My thought was, if people manage to pull off this convoluted strategy, will SE consider this yet another variation on ye old Wall of Justice, and expand AV's use of Draw In to make AV unbeatable yet again.

                        Re: Kanican's AV strategy

The key distinction between this and Wall of Justice is that this doesn't provide a perfect defense where AV is rendered a harmless target to people it can't attempt to reach. If executed perfectly, AV will be kept busy by a sort of co-tank pseudo-kiting which, while a relatively new approach, is hardly the low-risk exploit of attacking AV from a position he literally cannot get to. I don't think this is the kind of solution SE envisioned, though given the fact that Shadowbind in particular is a rare status he's susceptible to, it may not be that far off the mark. In which case making Draw In always get used when the target is far off would probably be considered going too far even if they didn't like the enmity-swap-across-a-wall scheme.

As far as Windower, the wireframe screenshot is just there to demonstrate the fact that the other side of the wall is right there and that the obstruction doesn't matter, just the distance. For targeting purposes, the standard in-game commands of /target and/or /assist are efficacious and appropriate.

                          What Lunaryn said.

Odds are this isn't what SE had in mind and they could quickly fix it by not letting you cast through the walls without having to touch AV's AI.
