Stabbing things on low-20s RDM would be nice.

Trad-parties in the low 60s would also be nice.

Now if only I could get a party that wants these things too... the tools may be there, but the community will probably take some time to adjust. -- Pteryx

Re: In anticipation of the Capping change...

It's funny how nobody in this thread has said they *like* ToAU style exp.

There's no mystery about why players who don't like it do it anyway - it's what other players are doing, and it gives the most exp/hr.

But if players don't like doing it, why did SE enable and over-reward it in the first place? It seems like a dumb move to push your players into a type of playstyle that they don't like (let alone when it also screws with job balance and desirability).

Or are players just sick of it because it's too common? Or is this thread (or site) not representative of the player community in general?

          Yes.

I went through Lab as DRG/WHM, because I got tired of WHMs that couldn't handle it. This was on Kujata back in the day, where you were *required* to go through Lab. Period. No options. You didn't go through Lab, you didn't level. How so many shitty WHMs made their way through Lab I'll never know. I was the whm half the time, and I still kept up my end of the deal on DDing. Oh, and yeah, Ose was kind to me (1/1).

However, if I had to find a level to synch to, it'd prolly go something like this:

Dragoon: 30s-40s, the point where DRG is one of the strongest melee DD jobs around before the other jobs start to catch up.

Blue Mage: 60+. Let's face it, Chain Affinity and Sneak Attack make a ton of spells sing. Trick Attack makes them sing not in your face, however.

Paladin: Anything below 67... ...especially since that's the point I started to CB my way to 75...

Corsair: No. Just... ...no. Never. My wallet has *yet* to recover... (and yes, that's *with* having won that Mog Bonanza, too)

Dancer: It's still 68 FFS, I'd synch down to party just to have to save it from the same Fate Paladin faced. Srsly now.

Re: In anticipation of the Capping change...

-There are almost no Traditional parties in the 60s. I had a handful in the high 60s. But otherwise, I "burned" my way from 60 to 75.

-Karinya, as always, you make a good point. If this many people are looking forward to this as a means of getting out of AU style exp, I think it says a lot about how overly-dominant that method really is. Just look at how many BRDs around here are burned out on pulling chain bajillion.

But it's true... FFXIOnline.com doesn't really attract the "mainstream" minded, so much. So to some extent, it really is an inaccurate opinion sample.

Re: In anticipation of the Capping change...

I actually liked ToAU-styled parties, aside from the lack of skillchains sometimes. Holding hate was at least remotely challenging for once. Kind of the inverse situation the mages had.

The solution is clearly to burn Toramas, using Skillchains.

EDIT: I still want to do a WAR/NIN WAR/NIN COR BRD Anything Anything party, with Shield Break and Armor Break, just to see how much massive damage can be inflicted to an IT mob at low levels.

Re: In anticipation of the Capping change...

But in lower level, like Dunes, does not need 40k exp. ding to next level... exp camps in those level before ToAU isn't design for high exp. chain. In the old days if a party get over 4k exp per hour, it was considered as great.

IMHO, this system is not *complete* at release. Tweaking will be seen.

Admittedly, I was duoing with Kam's PLD/RDM at the time, but with fairly common equipment and eating meat, we were tearing through our target mobs for a lot of those early levels simply on the extreme attack I had killing the mobs before they could become a threat. Very easy xp.

I'm mostly interested in BCNMs and CoP missions. I kinda feel like going back to help some people with Promies. Now that part of the pain will be removed. I wonder how 3x BLM UO in higher gear will work.

I wouldn't mind going back to Crawler's Nest on WHM. I actually felt useful there, Every single party I have been in since leaving CN has been "Hastebot everyone while the RDM main heals"
