FFxi Freezes during charchter creation

I have just bought FFXI(2008ED) and I have just installed it. When I start it, it works fine till the character creation screen were it freezes as soon as I enter it. It is the same problem EVERY time.

I have tried:
-updating my computer in all the ways possible(DX, new drivers, windows update, etc).
-tweeking the settings.
-done the benchmark, got ~8000

Nothing works and I will soon be very sad because I've bought a game that should work, but don't.

System spec:
AMD Phemom 9950 Q-Core
4gb Ram
2xNvidia 8800 gtx SLI
Windows XP

Try using the Simplified Character Creation option. You can select that in the FFXI Config menu before starting PoL. I know my com would freeze when I went to the full character creation but the simple one worked fine.
