Seriously... 18hrs... I love ffxi, but I love my sanity better. I don't think i'll be able to be playing ball on the court, or shooting the shit at work and respectably bring up the fact that over the weekend I spent 18+ hrs. killing a Video game creature.

Co-worker/friend1 : "So What did you do this weekend Shepard?"

Me : "Shit, not much, ummm... was gonna mow my lawn/watch a movie/have sex with my girl/take a day trip to the beach/read a book/play ffxi some...instead of all those things, I decided to fight this crazy awesome monster in ffxi for 21hrs!!! It was killer!"

Co-worker/friend2 : "Are you serious?"

Me: "Yeah man, we killed it, but it only droped this stupid earring that helps your cure spells cure more Hit points"

Co-worker/friend3 : "Your an idiot."

Sure, why not? It was pretty disgusting, and way way over the top. But then again, I think being able to tell someone you fought a virtual monster for virtual goods for 18+ hours is way over the top. Necessary, nah, probably not. I associated that statement with the ridiculusness of fighting PW for that long. Both of which are way way out of line.

How is telling someone you were fighting one mob for 18 hours any different from telling them you've been playing an MMORPG for x amount of time? Either way those who don't play this game will still look at you funny.

Of course that's totally ignoring the fact that SE also said in this interview that people are supposed to switch out and substitue in through out the fight, meaning you don't have to stay the entire 18 hours. But nope, that's not something we should focus on. Instead we'll worry about these reports of a "few" people getting sick from "concentrating too hard on their screen" for 18 hours.

Because no one else has ever done these 20+ hour fights and had no adverse affects, right?
