Re: Implementing Hair and face changes?

According to the pet food alpha podcast, SE says they can't implement new faces/hairstyles because that would mean adding all the new faces to headgear and that would be too much work.

Faces interact with headgear? I thought the headgear model just sort of sat on top of the head model.

I mean, how else do you account for the way when my character wears a circlet (such as PLD AF), it is mostly under my hair, except for a little piece in the back that sticks out of my hair. It's hard to believe that someone could have deliberately designed that effect - it must just be the unintended interaction between two models occupying the same space.

      Right?

Or maybe that's what they want you to think.

Re: Implementing Hair and face changes?

If you play around with .dats you see that they are right to an extent... atleast hair seems to play a part... each headpiece seems to be "tied" to your hair... for example when wearing a helmet, your hair doesnt clip out, it disappears, therefore there must be a connection between hair-headpiece.

          Though who knows... <.<

For things like circlets, headbands and masks and such, the headpiece does just "sit" on the head. However for hats and helmuts and things that cover up the head, the hat actually replaces your hair completely.

But even then, that just means that each face has 3-4 different versions of itself (normal, hat, helmut, etc) that they would need to add models for in order to add just one new face. On the other hand, dat modders create new faces all the time. This problem could be easily settled if we just ask one of them if a custom face works with all head armor in game.

Personally, I always thought it would have been better if SE made it so face and hair were two different options. This way you'd have a choice of 8 faces but 16 hair styles, and could mix and match at will.

Yeah I dont see them adding any "NEW" ones, but I do see them allowing us to change our current one to a different one of the available selections.

The surprised us with the lvl sync system, who's to say they wont surprise us by allowing this to happen also.
