  • how long should we wait? How long should we really wait?

    I requested recovery for a little over 2 weeks now, and I'm wondering if they don't recover it this week, if I should call them or cancel my Content ID?

    I left the slot open with no other character on it, so they have no obstacles searching for my original character data, but ya with the longer character recovery news, I dunno what to expect, money is being spent on a Content ID I'm unable to use until they recover my character.

    and this July I just got billed about $25...... which I wonder because I thought it was about 14 dollars a month.

    Hmmm ive been waiting only 7 hours to get my info recovered. SE claims it was "lost" in the recent PoL and Billings, yet the best part is my CC has already been charged Im about ready to just say fuck it go to the beach and get drunk for the next 2 months.

    Hmmm a double bill Ive had 3 this year and SE has said each time they will reimburse it, (still have yet to see the additional 15 dollars from each occurance returned to my CC)

    so with this and that they have about 60$ of my money for nothing...

      @ the OP: Just know they aren't really dicking you around, they're seriously undermanned and overwhelmed with requests like this, it's not just yours that's taking a long time, and they likely haven't forgotten about it and are still working to recover the character...however, if you're still being billed in the meantime, especially more than you should be, then you should at least call and inquire as to the details of the billing. They shouldn't be billing you for an unusable content ID, much less charging extra for it.

        I assume that your account got hacked. That $25 you got billed could be for a server transfer that the hacker initiated before/without changing the billing information.

          how can that be? there is no character data on the content ID, I deleted the 2nd character I made. and I changed my password too.


          great....so there are hackers/thieves within PlayOnline?


          hmmm could cancelling my content ID stop the hacker from making my bill any higher? should I change my password again? it's like 12 characters long.

            I'm not saying this is what happened but it could be, if you reactivate your account in the middle of one month, it doesn't always charge it then and there, it waits til your next month's bill and double's it up. It looks like you've been charged twice by accident but really it evens out because you didn't pay for the previous month.

              Guys ... the $25 (or "like" $25, as jenova said) was probably two months of billing. SE likes to bill two months, then skip one for some (asinine) reason. I doubt the account was hacked and server transferred, if there's no character to transfer how can they use the service.

                Exactly. I've had them do this several times (I'm not always good about remembering to make sure I have enough money at the first of the month). It's just the way they do things.

                    waaa. hey do you think they can still recover it while the content ID is in cancel mode? I am thinking of cancelling the content ID so I don't get billed if it takes more weeks before I even get a notice whether or not they succeeded.

                    and I would guess if they fail, they would at least automatically restore the recent one I created (but deleted so they have room to search for the original in that slot.)

                      Yeah that's happened to me before also. Once there wasn't enough money in my pre-pay credit account because my wages got messed up so when they tried to bill me it failed. after a couple of days I had to reactivate my Id but I wasnt charged at all my money sat there and they took it double next time.

                      I think I did it once before also when i had credit card problems.
                      I now use a pre pay credit card from virgin so if I get hacked there isno money on it to spend apart from the money I pay onto it for ffxi. Plus the interest isnt too bad it's like 2% I think, For some people it may seem steep but I dont mind paying that little extra for the safety of my money.

                      besides the possibility of losing a month's subscription to ffxi is alot better than having your bank balance raped.

                        Satori, are you interested in sharing some information on that prepay card thing? The gift card I bought for myself at CVS doesn't want to work, and I'm wondering if something I can reload every month like that would be better off for me so I can start playing again.

                            I'm really not sure but if it were me I would keep it activated, better safe than sorry.
