  • Help please :S Version question~!

I've ordered the US version just yesterday, from Australia since it wasn't in my local store. When i read, as long as you don't try and change the pol version, what did you mean? Can you still be ok in the registering part (ie put in you're from AUS), if you're in australia? :S *is worried*

I didn't know about gameswarehouse.com.au, otherwise I coulda got it from there :S

I used to have EU version, but like others, I can't remember my ID and all that stuff :S

EDIT #1: Please tell me the US version can connect fine? I'm panicing now :s I hope I didnt waste my money on the game, that I can't connect to :S /cry

EDIT #2: Hmm, does this mean if I install a US version on a AUS pc and from AUS ip address, if I ever want to change my info, I can't? As in payment details, or anything like that? Add content ID's or add new expansions? (i know the exp's would have to be the same region).

It will work fine. What they mean is that you have to be all or nothing. US registration codes, US POL, US FFXI, US Expansions or EU registration codes, EU POL, EU FFXI, EU Expansions will both work but US registration codes, EU POL, EU FFXI and US Expansions for instance will not work.

No. It means only that accounts created using NA POL reg codes must be created in NA POL and can only be managed from NA POL. Same for each other region.

The distinction is that any region of POL can be used to access and play FFXI on any given account, it simply can't modify account details. This is useful for NA players who know Japanese and wish to be able to type with the IME, for example.

I have both NA POL and JP POL on my system. My account was created with NA POL. Therefore if I need to update account details or content IDs, I must use NA POL for that. But I can still log into FFXI from JP POL.

I don't know if there are billing address restrictions in NA POL, though. I've heard of other EU players using NA accounts, though.

Edit: And yes, all reg codes for everything must match the account's region.

        You're fine. Don't panic. And don't cross-post.

Okie, so I live in australia, and I've bought the US Collection 2008, the whole lot (base + all exp).

I have already installed the Vista version of POL from the website, cause my old EU one didnt work when I tried the other night - before finding out that i cant find my ID ect >< (uninstalled it dw ^^). So would that be considered US version?

Or do I need to install the one that comes with the box? Or can I use the code in the collection box with my downloaded Vista version from the official site?

          And thankyou heaps btw =)

          EDIT: Gah yes :S I appologise~!

Re: Help please :S Version question~!

There are three vista-ready POLs for download. Which one you got probably depends on which version of the FFXI site you were on.

              NA POL: http://dl.square-enix.co.jp/polus/setup.exe
              JP POL: http://dl.square-enix.co.jp/pol/setup.exe
              EU POL: http://dl.square-enix.co.jp/poleu/setup.exe

If you bought the US/NA version of the game, you'll need the first version of POL listed.

*hugs you all* Thankyou so much guys~! Sorry I double posted too :S

Hope this post helps anyone else in aus trying to get the game too

And I'm pretty sure the version I got was the US sites one ^^ I might just re-install POL before the collection gets here just to make sure ^_^

OH! Also wanted to know, is the model viewer considered a 3rd party program? It doesn't do anything in-game, so wasn't sure, mainly to make a new sig ect soon

Re: Help please :S Version question~!

It's a third party program in that it's made neither by you (2nd party from SE's perspective) or Square-Enix (1st party). That term is thrown about as if it was something clear and concise when in fact it is not. Technically Windows, a requirement for even running POL/FFXI, is a third-party program/tool/collection-of-tools-and-libraries-etc. (And a few users reported being banned on grounds of third-party tool use for abnormal movement when running FFXI under some beta versions of Vista. Consistency is not one of SE's strong points anyway, so any advice given needs to be weighed against how much risk you want to take/how paranoid you want to be.) An overly strict reading of the ToS could be construed to suggest that you should use no other software at all on your computer except for POL/FFXI, but it is pretty clear SE does not expect that level of distrust of "third parties" from their customers.

Model Viewer reads and renders data located in the FFXI install, and may theoretically be used to modify it. It does not directly interact with a running FFXI, and I don't believe it falls under this site's definition of third party tools we can't promote or link to. The likelihood of SE discovering or caring that you have model viewer is extremely remote. I would recommend against running both programs at the same time, though, simply for possible stability concerns (FFXI doesn't always play nice with other 3D graphics programs).
