could anyone upload the latest version of the game please? Playonlines never gona finish all those!

not sure what version it is i have, i have an old version with just the chains of promathia and rise of zilart expansions, the dll files say 3.0.0.0 anyway :S

I wouldn't trust files you get online anyway. Go to the store, look for Vana'diel Collection 2008, and buy that. $30, has very much updated disks, and will also get you TAU and WTG expansions you're missing out on.

i plan on buying that later on, i just want to play this version to see what the games like til i go away in september.

if i leave the computer on all night yes, which i may have to do.

when i did an earlier patch i was under the impression it saved its progress if it didnt get to the end of the update, but for this it always has more than 20,000 when i got like 5000 done last night.

Are you actually downloading 20,000 every time? It doesn't actually update the files until they've all been downloaded, so it's still going to update 20,000 no matter how many you've already gotten. It does only download the ones it hasn't already.

no it ford not save progress, and yes your going to need to leave in on overnight, many of us here do that.

anyway it does a file check for 20,000 then an update for 14,000, so if i have to do it all in one go then i'll do it overnight yea, was jus checking if thers a faster way as my computer sucks at this stuff if it freezes overnight im gona break somethin!!!

i guess that means it splits itself in to two updates? so i can do the first one for about 14 hours then get up and put on the next one which had better be less than 10k!

The process is:

1) Check. Here, it checks all the files it needs to update, regardless of how many you've downloaded or anything.
2) Download. This is the part where getting interrupted doesn't matter much. You're down to 14,000 now, if you stop after 5,000 again you'll have 9,000 to download.
3) Install. Pretty self-explanatory. It doesn't install anything until it has everything.

You're better off letting it run as long as it can, to avoid running the Check phase every time.

ehh, wha? you said it wont save the progress

im saying the file check came up with 22,000 or something, then the download did 14,000 or something, and thats what i was asking if i had to do all in one go, like i did 4000 or something already so it should already have that.

anyway, im trying to do the whole thing, but now the download stage only has 5000, thatll be done while i'm asleep.. i'll just see if i can get it to a higher level again.

anyway, i think the download part only saves its progress if i dont turn the computer off so then it has the downloaded files as temp files

I don't know the semantics, but usually when I download an update these days, my progress is saved if I get disconnected from the server for whatever reason. Files that have been downloaded already seem to stay on your computer temporarily until the whole update has finished. After which, they install and remove the temp files.

Just keep trying to let the update run. It probably sucks on a slow connection, but the first installation update is the worst.

Also, use the last few mins/hours of the update to enjoy the last of your social life for a while. If you end up getting into FFXI enough, there's really no time for life. Ha.

this copy of the game hasnt updated since 2004 :D .

so i have a bad feeling another 20k update will show up once this ones done

no the system will only do one update, once that one is done, it should be finished


and yeah I was part wrong, it will check all files every time, but it wont download them all again, so in a way it does save your progress
