Maybe she was going by it's sentimental value because I sure as hell can't see anyone really paying that.. I can't understand people who buy accounts anyway and most likely it wasn't taken to be resold, as far as I know they get hacked and used for RMT purposes, so you'll see them running around on some other server PLing a bunch of tarus that all look the same and what not. Most people that sell accounts are the people who rightfully "own" that character and they get bored of the game and want some cash.

I've actually heard of people selling thier accounts, claiming they were "hacked" and getting them back. Basically, that would be scamming the buyer and SE at the same time. While I have no respect for the buyer to start with, it doesn't change the fact the seller did something far more seedy.

The RDM that was originally supposed to be in my 2nd Sea static actually pulled this little stunt. Those on Odin that wish to know his name I will be happy to share it with them so they can avoid him. Needless to say, I did not get him sea access.

That reminds me, if he shows his face in the LBR LS ever again, I need to break his pearl. Thankfully, he hasn't shown up since resurfacing.

Yep had that happen in an old ls. We just got him an equip that sold for several million gil. He sold the equip for gil, liquidated everything he owned, sold all the gil to rmt, and then sold the account to some clueless soul too. He was very close to the sacs and leader of the shell so he had a lot of good gear. Then about 3 months later, he came back on the same character bragging how he used the registration codes to get his character back. And yes, they let him back into the ls. He even wanted back the equip they had just gotten him that he sold.

Considering how much IGE sells junk characters for ( no gear, maybe 1 75 job, no merits ), I can see why she thinks her account's worth 5,000 dollars.

And lol at this topic. Whoever wrote that article needs to do a little research before he posts outdated information and makes an ass out of himself.

Even characters with multiple lvl 75 jobs, crafting leveled, and good gear aren't worth much if you go through the rmt's. The guy that was in my old ls that sold his gil was going to sell his account to them too. They offered him $150. He eventually got $600 by selling it via other methods.

You know, I understand the viewpoint you guys are taking that the policies this journalist is quoting are old and no longer reflect SE's business practices. That said, I hope people read this article. I further hope that it gets passed around, hyperlinked all over the place, and blackens SE's eye. Yes, I hope SE suffers because of something they've fixed. The reason I hope this is because of what they haven't fixed. We still don't really own anything. We rent characters, and that rental agreement frankly sucks.

Unfortunately, no matter what online game you play, you don't necessarily own anything, due to IP issues (intellectual property for those who don't know) and the very difficult legal task in trying to place a value on "time". Even outside of online gaming, this is a difficult legal question in general business practices.

I knew a guy like that on Sylph server, he was such a jack ass, he played the old sob story about getting hacked and not only did he scam the buyer and SE but he scammed all his friends/LS (luckily not me) into giving him a ton of gil and/or items.
