    Re: So I resubbed...

Grab the XP bonus ring that suits you best (Chariot sucks, Emperor or Empress are the only ones that make sense, depending on how often you play), and make sure you keep signet up. Keep your gear up to date. Then just go off killing Easy Prey.

It's not hard to solo to 37 (except for some mage jobs). It's just time-consuming. Selbina Milk and/or a healing subjob like WHM or DNC can help, too. And/or your Adventuring Fellow if you're high enough on your main job(s) to get one.

There is no rush. If you're not willing to take your time, don't be surprised when no one wants to give you much of theirs.

@Ziero: Unless I am mistaken, it doesn't appear OP is starting over.. just wanting to level his/her sub jobs.

As for WAR SJs at 20.. your best bet is /MNK.. /NIN offers you nothing(besides dual wield) till 24 and that's about it and with the "increase" to 2H weapons, GA will be better suited Weapon for you. Not to discourage you from using 2 axes or anything, and I know how majority of people have no concern for their sub job. They just want to get it leveled to 37 as fast, little effort, time, and gil spent.

You can even get some exp doing Campaign battles and even Campaign OPs. If you have access to WotG content, then areas outside the nations are a good place to exp. You have roaming Pixies, can get one or more - Regen, Refresh, Meal Duration+ from Sigil (for 50AN each).

        Re: So I resubbed...

See, that's the thing I'm confused shitless about.

I have the new exp pacs but I have no clue what I'm suppoesd to use them for. Jeuno has become quite empty and because of how small the community is now (even the one here) it's hard to find any info on what to do. There are bits and pieces of what happened, but not enough for me to know exactly where to go.

Soloing: fine, easy enough. Read up on some food table, grab some food, go back to Valkrum/Taru's Valkrum/Kor tunnels and solo.

Crafting: Easy and boring enough, I have warp so I can warp all over the place (17 BLM sub)

Campaign battles? What exactly are those? What did the new exp pacs offer? Call be stupid for buying them, but I was hoping the information would just "seep" in. I don't want to be actively trying to find out how to do something: I mean this is a game...not work. Hopefully this game still has it's charm though.

MMO's might not be the game for you then.

This isn't Pac-Man, you're going to have to do a little bit more.
I use a Mac because I'm just better than you are.

Chances are I've played more MMOs and this one longer than you. I know what type of game this is. There were a few questions I asked in the post I made earlier. No need to single out one line that you disagree with and try to provoke me.

anything and everything can be found here..... from the time you stopped playing, the game has changed way to much to sit here and tell you.

Like it has been said, this is an MMORPG, research is a part of it ;p

and the population has not really changed, its been pretty steady for a while

If that's the case then soloing for him will be all the easier.

However Campaign battles are no way for him to lvl his 20 War sub.

Actually, that one single comment explains why you're having so much trouble. There is so much to do in this game and so many ways to do it, but nothing is handed to you. You actually do have to look up and research how things work, all the information is out there. Most of it is compiled neatly in that dandy little site Kailea provided. And out of all the things that have changed about this game, researching information on your own is not one of those things. Despite your claims I really doubt you do understand "what type of game this is" if you expect things to be easily explained to you within the game itself. But then again, there are tons of NPCs that do exactly that.

However, you are still wrong on the fact that the population in this game has 'died'. There are just as many players now as there always was, it's just they're more spread out and more focused on higher lvl things. Do some research, explore the world, get resituated with your highest level character before condemning the game for having a "small community". Because I assure you, when you get yourself to Whitegate you'll find out why Jeuno is so "empty".

Well..last time I checked. Which was in 2005...? The /sea all option gave me 2-4k people depending on the time. It's giving me 1000-high 1000s now.

And yes I agree, all MMOs require research. However, some MMOs *cough* WoW, make it damn easy to figure out what to do. Others aren't as simple, but still give you a general idea.

Oh, how are Japanese parties now? Still kicking NA's ass like they used to? Cause if so, I'm flagging my JPN flag up and I'll start typing in Chinese lol

EDIT: Thanks for the site btw. Just what I needed.

I dont think the community is small but I think Jueno is not the place where everyone hangs anymore. Aht Whitegate and the nations (Bastok, WIndy, Sandy) in the past and present is where you will find most people are currently.

The only time I head to jeuno is when I am leveling a subjob. Most people set there home points to Aht Whitegate or their nation (Bastok, Windy, Sandy). Mine is currently set to Bastok present time because I can get to Aht Whitegate, Jeuno, or the nations of the past within a few minutes.

If I looking for any mission/quest/NM/BCNM etc. I will go to Aht Whitegate and shout for help. Where in the past people would go to Jeuno for help.

As for soloing, there are many tricks you can do. A few are soloing mob pets, using your NPC fellow for extra damage/someone to skillchain with/healing (I was able to take down decent/even matches this way and join exp/time when compared to soloing EP), and soloing worms using shadows and arrows/bolts.

That single statement sums up your whole complaint. The game hasn't changed in the amount of research required to play since you quit. So are you suddenly incapable of finding information, have you since decided to just have everyone hand you even the smallest bit of information, or was it the reason you left in the first place?

No, I was expecting a "community" board to assist me because it's a "community". The others have, and I thank them. As for you clearly trying to start shit, just stop while you can. Thanks, bye.

                          Re: So I resubbed...

While the population on many servers has decreased, I don't think that's the biggest factor here. It's more that the way in which people handle low-level xp has changed dramatically in the past couple years.

Firstly, there has been a huge pro-soloing push. More and more people have decided that almost all xp party options pre-50 suck so badly that you should be taking every possible opportunity to get xp in other ways. And there are a LOT more opportunities to get xp outside of parties than there used to be. Soloing has arguably gotten easier, and the potentials that were already there have become much better understood by the community. Campaign ops are a significant supplement to the non-combat xp options already afforded from things like the lost chocobo quest (can be done weekly, once you learn the routes you can reliably get a Dragon Chronicles (500-1000 xp, level 4+) in 20 minutes or a Miratete's Memoirs (500-1500 xp, level 20+) in 28 minutes). Chariot and Empress Band (but arguably not Emperor band, unless you're getting BST-pet-burn xp, due to the time it takes to use up the bonus) are of more arguable benefit in xp/hr terms to soloers or small parties, who are likely to enjoy the benefits of the xp bonus over the course of the entire xp session, than full parties, who are likely to exhaust the bonus early in the session.

Secondly, there's been a significant build-your-own-party ethic pushed over this time. This can be seen reflected in the fact that there are almost never the right balance of seekers to build a single party; any time there is, they tend to get scooped up immediately. It's also reflected by the significant upswing in unsolicited party invites across a much wider variety of jobs. And it's reflected by the number of parties that start forming, get all the non-vital roles filled, and then stagnate and break up over frustration with not being able to find a NIN, PLD, RDM, WHM, etc. to fill in the last 1-2 party slots.

Thirdly, there has been a massive distortion in the xp/hr expectations at high levels since the release of ToAU. ToAU camps have transformed the way in which parties function at high levels, and this has caused some amount of conceptual breakdown in the formation of parties at a low levels. This adds to the whole "all low-level xp sucks" mindset, and has helped to add to the extreme ubiquity of PLs, as well as fostering a desire to avoid mainstream xp parties, which helps to make such parties both more scarce and of less overall quality.

Ahh the timeless conundrum: Comparing World of Warcraft to FFXI.

People still do this; and people still get it very wrong. FFXI =/= WoW.

Really, in the 2.5 years I've played for, I haven't seen the game, population, or community change a whole hell of a lot. Playstyles, exp camps, and endgame is always evolving in someway, but core elements of the camp have stayed the same for the most part. In fact, most things from when I started have been made easier or more convenient.

Perhaps if you stop letting the game frustrate you, you can begin to enjoy it.

Oh, how are Japanese parties now? Still kicking NA's ass like they used to? Cause if so, I'm flagging my JPN flag up and I'll start typing in Chinese lol
All parties are different and move at different paces. That being said, JP parties (I've found at least) tend to be more coordinated and willing to make some far-fetched setups work. Lots of JP leaders will announce right off how long they intend to exp for, and will stop right on the minute.

However, that doesn't mean NA or EU are any less competent. I would refrain from limiting myself to one certain type of player or another.

I've learnt a lot of things about soloing, like what to kill and where to kill. I remember on RDM picking on mob pets like BLMs solo, it worked quite well as long as they weren't too tricky and the exp came quite fast. Also a lot of the new areas, like E Ron (S) is good to solo in about the 30s I believe.

Another big BIG assest to soloing is Bloody Bolts, I said it once and I'll say it again: they are so useful once you can use them. They kill the downtime between fights so you don't need to keep /healing. Soloing on THF was soooooo slow, their damage is not great, especially before Viper Bite (33) and I actually used swords through soloing a lot.

When soloing on a new job I generally ask friends/linkshell members who have leveled that job what is the best weapons to use for soloing, where to solo etc Their advice helps a lot.

I would agree with this sentiment as far as how the game in and of itself plays now. However, I'd say that it's seemed that a lot of the sense of degradation in the way the community function tracks this. While there have always been incompetent and selfish people in the community, when much of the game was a supreme struggle, there was a much stronger sense of the community's expectations, why you needed to try to meet them, much more coordination and common effort. The less we've needed to struggle together to overcome the game's own harshness, the less we've tended to coordinate and work together overall...
