Need message to get NPC stat boost from Shinai?

I started leveling my NPC(currently 66 but want to get him to 70 and also obtain the last equipment lock) but this time I have a Shinai. I been reading posts which people say they get a message that their NPC is intimidated by the Shinai when they summon their NPC while wielding the Shinai.

I have never gotten this message when summoning my NPC while wielding the Shinai. My question is do you think I need to get the "intimidated" message to get the stat boost from the weapon?

They probably weren't talking about what you think they were. <_<;

Either way what sucks about those NPC weapons is that you need to equip the weapon all the time to get the stat boost, or so they say. Hmmm, I think I'm going to test it using the +HP weapon to find out.

I tested it with Hydra Hose and you do need to keep the item on full time for the NPC to recieve the effect. I summoned my NPC with them on, took them off and put them back on again and was able to cure my NPC for 10. If dynamis tavnazia drops have that restriction on them, I'd assume the holiday event items do too.

Speaking of disappointments related to NPCs, I spent 30k fellow points to extend Karyn's time limit only to discover that it does not also increase her kill limit. It's still 30 mobs and she's gone. It's still slightly useful since sometimes I'm on mob #27 or 28 when she decides to go to bed if I've been afking or something while she's out, but 50k points for a second upgrade gets a solid {No thanks.}

Man that sucks, good thing I'm only interested in buying the option to lock the 4th piece of armor. But since I'll be restarting my NPC to change her personality and model it's going to be a while until I get it.

They should allow you to make those superficial changes once without having to restart the quest.

No, their post said that there was a message displayed, "<NPC name> is imtimidated by Shinai." I will try to find the posts when I get home and link them.

I was told the Hydra armor is full time and the event weapons are only when summoned. I think it says that in FFXIclopedia but it is a wiki and cant be taken as 100% fact.
