  • So, possibly returning for kicks...

So, I quit about a year and a half to two years ago and was considering a return for kicks but had some questions.

1: Are Tanks still the same generally? I left a 75 Ninja and that's what I'd be returning to but I don't want to start over completely to be a viable role in Parties.

2: Are Bards still very sought after in parties? My wife was my duo partner for my Ninja so was curious if those two could duo anything like they used to.

3: What are the end-game activites now? Is everyone still camping Sky and doing Limbus? Is the Jailor of Love still the end-all be-all Mob in the game?

4: Are server transfers done at all? A friend of mine from work heads his own Linkshell on a different server than we were on and that'd be the defining factor of playing again for me.

Thanks for your responses and hullo to anyone who reads this that remembers me from back in the day.

EDIT: Is the immortal PiNG still the moderator here?

For end game paladins tank the best it seems, but ninjas can do most stuff. In merit parties ninjas do really well, so if you just wanted to lvl alot, youd do fine. Ive seen ninjas tanking HNM (not in a while) but could do it just fine as well, just depends what your fighting?

    Bards own

Sky and limbus are still done. No one can beat AV still, cuz SE sucks at not sucking. Event wise, our group salvages alot, and nyzul isle assault. Sea farming and gods still happen often.

Server xfers have been goin for quite some time

Yes. For meripo...not so much. Ninjas get overlooked in TP-burns due to lower DD than other jobs. For endgame though, I suspect they're about the same.

Bard is the single most sought out job in exp parties.

Salvage, limbus, sky, limbus, lol-einherjar, new land HNMs-- Cerberus, Hydra, Chimaera.

As for the end all be all mob, Absolute Virtue is still the winner, followed by Odin from Eiherjar.

Yeah, you can transfer servers for a fee of 30 dollars I think? However, you cannot switch again for another 30 days.

World Transfer Service is $25 USD; once used, cannot transfer again for 90 days.

Ninjas tanking is still kind of the same misused term it was when you left. Meaning, very few of them are actually tanks but on the rare occasion you'll meet one that can actually do it.

2: Are Bards still very sought after in parties? My wife was my duo partner for my Ninja so was curious if those two could duo anything like they used to.
Yes, BRD is just as it was before, minus the Mazurka tanking exploits. Levelling it to 75 first is still the biggest mistake you'll make in this game DNC is the direct opposite of BRD, it melees and uses TP to dubuff the mob and Cure allies, your wife might want to give that one a spin since its awesome for duos.

3: What are the end-game activites now? Is everyone still camping Sky and doing Limbus? Is the Jailor of Love still the end-all be-all Mob in the game?
Salvage and Einherjar are pretty big deals for many linkshells these days. Salvage is paid off by Assault points so you can spam that on a bunch since its instanced. Einherjar runs of the same wonky concept as Dynamis, but with a 30 minute time limit and everything links. Nyzul Isle is a 6-member affair. Think randomized 100 level dungeons made popular by other FF games, add NMs and HNMs inside it along with new relic weapons and some endgame ToA armor sets and you get the general idea. Random objectives on every floor.

4: Are server transfers done at all? A friend of mine from work heads his own Linkshell on a different server than we were on and that'd be the defining factor of playing again for me.
Yar, people answered this one agreeably.

Also just level RNG again, RNG forum here is slow. We got Velocity Shot (Haste effect on Ranged) just before WotG was released.

these people pretty much answered everything but to add another thing people do endgame now is Campain from the Wings of the Goddess expansion. It's kinda worldwide besiged and many 75 players hang out and do it with the prospect of getting merits without the triditiional XP setups.

Thanks for the replies all. It'll be interesting to be back if I do decide to. I've been screwing around in a trial account just for fun and it's hilarious the things you recall. /befriend, /anon, the funny auto translate combo's. Man, it's been a long time.

Campaign Battles definitely isn't endgame. ._. I see Lv.60-something players in those all the time.

While it may not be "endgame" in the sense of the normal term, there ARE endgame mobs involved on a good portion of it. Some mobs are pulled right out of Dynamis and other content.

So do those who aren't really deep into endgame, I suppose its endgame enough to them. Dee Xalmo the Grim is a motherfucker no matter where you put him.

MY GOD THE CHANGES!!! Few things that have blown me away:

1: No TP loss while resting.

2: Mobs DESPAWN if they're zoned?! How many years of Garlaige and CN being effectively Locked Out due to huge trains sitting at the entrance.

3: This Anniversary Band is ridiculous! (In a good way) I got 400 exp off a Pugil in the Dunes yesterday!

4: Speaking of the Dunes, where the hell is everyone?! I remember having to cruise for 15 min. just to find an empty camp before starting the party up. Yesterday I saw maybe 5 people going from point A to point B in the Dunes. I think maybe 1 party all day besides mine. Are we essentially leveled out on population now? Are the parties later on essentially the same?

LOL isn't this the truth. I just took 3 jobs through the dunes and the only way to do it was to use my husbands character to p/l myself. I was always seeking though and got a total of ONE pt on all 3 jobs. (Fyi, I was lvling rdm x 2 and whm.) Nowadays, its dead there with occasional bursts of activity.

The days of six-man party for Valkrum Dunes may be ending on most Worlds. Players will soon need to accept two to four people sized party of varying composition; Signet and Sigil both give experience bonus for party of 2-5, with the sweet spot at 3 IMO.
