Okay, so I'm all the way in Windurst. And now I want to go to the Bastok Markets and buy new equipment. Can I do that easily, even at lv.10, or do I seriously gotta wait till I get to level god knows what to get on an airship?

You can go walking. Buy some maps, use the roads and signs and your regional map, or just go to ffxi-atlas.com. Just avoid being aggroed.
But I can't think of a single good reason why you'd have to go to Bastok Markets to buy new equipment.

If you're carefull you can make it on foot. Persoanlly I went from Bastok to Windy as a lvl 10 THF when I was just starting out in retail.
You can pay a mess of gill for an airship pass or get Nation Rank 5 for a free one. Usually around lvl 50 is a good time to do that stuff...Shadowneko's FFXI Newbie Guide 2009

Don't buy an airship pass please...If you do, I'll laugh at you.
Just wait until you hit rank 5 and get a free airship pass and save the gil.
And if you want to buy gear, just use the Windy auction house. There's no reason to travel by foot to another city at such a low level.Comment

Yea I would suggest not buying one... and I'm guessing you don't have anywhere near 500k at level 10, hell I've never had that much (because i spend too quickly XD)Comment

Actually, I have allot of gil saved up from an old account and I had a friend help me, so I got quiet a bit of gil, like 300kComment

In any case, yes, use the Auction House or check database sites for NPCs that might sell what you're looking for in Windurst. It's pretty pointless to take a 45 minute trip on foot, risking possible death, for a couple of pieces of low level gear.Comment
