Keep in mind that the 40 GB model will not support FFXI as it doesn't have PS2 backwards compatability. As far as I know all others will work.Comment

I've been playing it on my 60 gig for over six months. You need the Playstation 2 system file from the store(free) to allow it to install.
Also there's no PS3 specific edition so you'll be just installing the PS2 version...Shadowneko's FFXI Newbie Guide 2009

Just note that, at least from my experiences, it has been having issues with Playonline connecting. My PS3 and a friend of mine's both have this issue so I can only assume that it is not unique to us.
Both of our PS3's work just fine online with any other game and connect online fine with anything else, but Playonline has issues. Once you get lucky enough to connect though it's fine it's just that initial connection. Maybe there is something they need to patch for this to become less an issue, but atm it is one both me and my friend are dealing with.Life is all about decisions. Okay, so, I may be in a bit of a jam. I out my FFXI disk into my PS3 (the original when the PS2 HDD first came out) and it keeps asking me to install POL before FFXI, but doesn't give me the option to install POL.
Is the POL installer on the other disk? I lost the other, but thought nothing of it as I figured it was the manual disk like the PC versions contain. ><Comment

yes that other disk was the POL disk -.- you are going to have to go buy the 08 collection, its cheap anyway-------------------------------------------------------------------------

I really don't kow any online game stores that do...most take credit cards. Also if you got a used disk it has no accout creation codes...which are included when you but a copy of the game..Shadowneko's FFXI Newbie Guide 2009

Finally got the game installed on my PS3, but now it keeps telling my my ID or password are wrong when I -know- they aren't I've gone back and forth between my PC and PS3 and written stuff down a bajillion times, but the PS3 continues to say my info is wrng.
Am I gonna have to use the new account that came with the PS2 version?

Well, chances are it is wrong. Check to make sure your keyboard doesn't have capslock on, or some other strange thing.
Other than that, I do remember something about POL changing passwords, though I don't know the specifics.Comment
