  • Re: The issues with FFXI that we don't often discuss

Gear is an important aspect of the game, but I feel like too many people try to rely on that alone. A competent player will try to gear their character with what they have available, and some people are not able to have the top tier. It would not make sense to remove it from the game, but I would like to see a change in some attitudes reflecting the topic. People acquire gear, it generally does not just appear on your body.

My apologies, I totally missed the boat on this one.

In World of Warcraft you have to switch out gear for resists, whether that is for hitting the monster more often or not getting hit by it that often. How do element resists work in FFXI? I am sure it is not exactly the same as WoW.

I agree. I certainly don't have top tier anything, and I do ok. But I do have different sets. That's just common sense.

I'm not disagreeing with the notion that penalizing RNG for ammo swapping is silly, because it is. However, I still don't buy for a second that it's time-consuming to make a PvP macro set, no matter the job. A hassle? Sure. But it can't possibly take very long, and you only have to do it once.

All that aside, and this really has nothing to do with my point, it'd be bad if they prevented you from changing equipment at all. If I accidentally had the wrong thing on when the match started, or if I realized a certain piece of equipment really isn't helping me at all, I wouldn't be able to change it. Turning off the /equip text command so you can't change gear via macros would be a better solution.

No one's arguing that, and no one really expects people to have the highest tier gear for all their jobs (especially the rarest stuff), what we're arguing is the necessity for gear swapping.

Granted, if I don't have a particular piece I can't swap it in, but if I have it and it's good in some instances but not others, I'll put it on when I need it and replace it when I don't.

Quoting myself because of the stupid bottom of the page.

Re Armando: Ammo-swaps aren't penalized. Given the sheer nature of Ammo, though, that would be pretty dumb. Turning off /equip, though, is an interesting concept.

Look, just so I can bring some quick closure, this whole thing started when BBQ demanded I "back up" my opinion, and I did, and the whole thing spiraled in to me trying to argue against circular reasoning all by my lonesome. Well, I can't continue forever.

So, let us bring this thread back to BBQ's OP: what unsung horrors lurk within FFXI?

(I'm sorry I had to. And I know the "your mom" jokes are ancient. I couldn't resist. Just this once. Go ahead and slap me now.)

Yeah, I'd be offended to receive YM's mom too.

There's something odd about someone with ~ Mama Gamer ~ for a title making a "your mom" joke.

I just spit water on my computer laughing, and I have child. Just because we are supposed to set good examples for our children does not mean we necessarily have to.

As for these unsung horrors, I hope there not too many when I start playing. Murphie is going to show me to play, since I will be following him around on his server
