How much would you pay for a lifetime subscription?

Assuming SE offered a lifetime subscription -- you pay once, and then can play for as many months as you like, how much would you be willing to pay for it?

Just to keep it from being exploitable, assume it only covers one content ID, and you'd still have to pay the $ for every one after that.

$200 was what LOTRO went with, which was just over a year for their payments. It would be more time in FFXI (since it starts at $13, not $15)

I don't really see the new MMO as being a problem-- I think quite a few people are still enjoying FFXI.

I also don't see there being a huge amount of people leaving for a new SE MMO more than any other MMO if that MMO isn't also in Vana'diel.

No but paying for a lifetime and getting banned wouldn't be worth it, what was too say you didn't fork out say $200 and get banned say 2 months later what good does that do you?

$200 is what's setting up to be a comfy standard in the industry so that sounds fine. It pays for itself in 14 months which isn't too hard to rack up. However, so far I've only seen it on first subscription so you don't know if the game will suck or die or whatever.

I tallied up the total cash I've spent on my three longest played games and, due to my tendancy to bore easily, I only paid over $200 on two of them (EQ1 and WoW). However, I can't say how an account that is essentially free after those 14 months would have effected my choice to stop playing. If I could test-taste a game and -then- plunk down another $200 I'd be more than happy. It's having to dole out that much on an unknown that I just can't afford. Too much of a gamble.

If SE gave every account an option to perma-sub for $200 I'd probably be a naughty boy and hit up the credit card for me and the wife. FFXI's got legs and should easily be around for a long time. Tho, I don't know how they'd handle the extra $1 per character slot. Imo, that's a bilk anyhow. They should can that system altogether.

I agree, it would turn into Diablo or some shit, but diablo has been around for a long ass time it self, and people still play EQ1. So, I think FFXI will be around for a long ass time anyway. I honestly feel comfortable paying a monthly fee then paying a life time membership. That way it keeps SOME of the jerks at bay.

Guess what, it doesn't work that way in life. I belong to a Country Club and I have a lifetime membership and to top it off.....they have rules. If I break one of their bigger rules, my membership is revoked and I'm banned. Good grief you really don't think you can buy a lifetime membership and then run around and be an asshole and get away with it!? Even if you personally wouldn't do it, you KNOW that others would. Would you want to play a game with a bunch of people being jerkoffs and ruining your experience? I'm sure you wouldn't and others have expressed they wouldn't either. So that is why there are still rules even if you do pay, to protect everyone.

And let's stop with the attacks. Feba asked a perfectly fine question that doesn't pertain whatsoever to him actually playing FFXI. You obviously came in with a chip on your shoulder over some recent issue with SE so lets not take it out on other members.

I agree life without rules, even if it is a MMO life, it would still suck. People would walk all over everyone, people in FFXI seem nice to me. (for the most part.) But, if you gave them the freedom to do what they want they would end up walking all over you. I think that it is a very bad idea, to have a refund for a life time membership. I think they should make you pay more money if you break the rules, or get banned lol.

Ya I would probably be willing to be around $200, but not much more. More than $200 in lumpsum on a video game, regardless of how often I will continue to play it, seems a little unreasonable to me.
