Dancer and Scholar both look very interesting as well so I'll be looking into those a little more in depth as well.
        Red Mage, Bard, and White Mage are all very busy at endgame. Dancer and Scholar both have healing and damage capabilities, although not in the same way. Another job you might want to consider is Corsair. They are basically a hybrid support/damage dealer class.

          This is a myth; only about 1 out of 10 character has a Lv.75 jobs to begin with.

          The 7th Vana'diel Census (2007)

          That says only 9.16% (*) of all characters (with Lv.2 and higher jobs) have Lv.75 job. Even if we assume all Lv.2-5 characters (Lv.1 already excluded) are storage characters as well, character with Lv.75 jobs only make up 10.42% of the Lv.6-75 population.

          "The majority of the population has multiple 75 jobs" is a patently false statement. It wasn't true in 2005 (5.86%), or in 2006 (5.95%), or in 2007 (9.16%), and probably won't be true in 2008 or 2009 or 2010.

          (*) All the data exclude Lv.1 character, so that means most "mules" (storage, crafting, or gardening use only characters) do not count toward the percentages cited.

              Everyone of those mules with only Lv.1 job was already excluded from S-E's data. My ~10% figure excluded all with Lv.5 and under jobs, in addition; your mules are not a factor. "Majority of people have Lv.75 jobs" is a total myth; "Majority of people have multiple Lv.75 jobs"--nearly an outright lie.

              If you mean people with higher level jobs play more, that's probably true. Without hard data, though, it's not helpful to make more hyperboles.

              * * *

              Causes for low number of people seeking party at certain level ranges aside, seems like S-E wants those of us who can't get a full party to use "small group"--that's why Signet and Sigil both grant experience bonus for less than full party. (And, it'd explain Rabbit Pie, which gives both defense and attack bonuses--partying in small groups often requires one to wear multiple hats.)

              With so many ways to solo now, those who want groups better start getting used to less than full parties as a norm.

                  Re: Coming back perhaps..FFXI, Population/Acitivity...

                  Also - and I have no clue if this holds true on other servers - it seems common that most people will have 1-3 social LS that they bounce between during the day and also (at 75) will often have several 'raid' LS (Dynamis, Limbus, Salvage, etc.). I personally, on Remora, am in a good social LS that is lead by three people, one of whom has (at least) three 75s (red/white/black mages); the other two have 65 SAM and 66 PLD as their highest level characters. We have several players occasionally in the LS that also have multiple 75s. The rest of the LS is made up of 30 or so people throughout the level ranges - six or seven in their 50s, several in their 40s, etc.

                  It's a good dynamic, imo. While there are definitely merits to a static "guild" system, the fact that FFXI lets you put on different linkshells and allows you to have your "raid" LS be different than the one with the people you normally socialize with really sets it apart from other games. I didn't really "get" this back when I played FFXI in '03-'04, but now that I'm in LS that reaps the benefits of higher level people being able to switch to our LS, if they're in the mood on non-raid nights, I really appreciate it. The linkshell system definitely lowers the barriers for high-level people who wish to perform "random acts of kindness," as they can actually get to know people outside their raid group without the artificial annoyance of having to de-guild and get re-invited whenever they want to hang out with another group of people.

                  It's kind of like real life, really - imagine if you had to quit and get re-hired for your job every day if you wanted to hang out with different groups of people at night than you do during the day. Doesn't make much sense, does it?

                    Re: Coming back perhaps..FFXI, Population/Acitivity...

                    It's just too bad that you have to carry all those linkpearls about, and can only pay attention to one LS at a time.
