The long story short, I can't play online games where I am due to blocked ports. I need a good way to tunnel preferably with a proxy provided to get around these ports. I have tried http-tunnel with sockscap and also your-freedom with proxycap. First one was incredibly slow and wouldn't improve much even if I paid monthly for it due to a big limit in the upload. Second combo I didn't even get to really try because the company is idiotic...you need to create an account to use it but they didn't send me the confirmation email so I could us it...I even emailed them in the hopes of getting it but they ignore me. I've also tried to use openvpn but either the guide I received to use it sucked or I am just not technical enough to use it...could be a combination of the two.

    Does anyone have suggestions?

    Ya, don't bother.

They will all be too slow for realtime and near realtime traffic.
I use a Mac because I'm just better than you are.

HTTP Error 418 - I'm A Teapot - The resulting entity body MAY be short and stout.

depending on where you are, you can ask for those ports to be opened, unless your not supost to be playing FFXI there to begin with ;p

Eh, I live in an apartment complex where the owner doesn't want her bandwidth eaten up by online games. I've already asked her to remove the blocks but she said "I can't remove it just for one person, it would be unfair for the others". She doesn't realize that these online games for the most part take less bandwidth than a good number of websites. I've told her this but she really doesn't want to hear it. I'm not complaining about her...she's doing what she thinks is best for her. I am really getting annoyed by the whole thing though.

So, nobody has any suggestions other than stop playing games and do something productive?

EDIT: I've preordered the 08 collection for windows so I want to get this all hashed out before it comes or before I get a buddy pass (break between semesters starts today and the preordered game might not come in time for it...ends on the 21st and the game gets shipped on the 15th.)

Find a new apartment or a house rental where you can get your own cable like , HA! OR!!!! Sec... lemme find the link, Pringles Yagi Antenna you can easily boost a wireless signal from an outside source to your computer using this website. It's what we did for my final project in my last computer science class - boosted a wireless signal using a half wave vaiable and a range of around 7 miles, just set your computer up next to a window some where - the max length the cord can be from your reciever is 3ft.

Seems like a good idea. After realizing I couldn't play games here I got a wireless broadband connection but it is the most worthless thing i've ever seen. There is actually a little connection for an antenna so I'm going to call up the company and see if they can provide me with one. I would rather not pay $25 a month(its a cheap one) extra just so I can play games though...makes me feel like a drug addict who needs his fix.

              Re: Tunneling

if you have a phone line, you could get dialup for about $10 a month, then just use that for FFXI. There are also some places (AT&T) that sell DSL at around the same price, under some conditions.

other than that, explain how little bandwidth it uses. Use a graph, if necessary.

if you want i can help you put together a brief to try and persuade her to remove those blocks. my job in the army is to make presentations and brief generals and the such, it would take no time at all.

Thanks for the help guys but I think I'll just stick with this wireless broadband...she'll never cave. Besides the connection seems to be a lot better now.

Im curious, did you do something to make the connection much better. I've been thinking of gettin a laptop and air card just to play stuff at work. What other games do you play using that connection?
