Well, thats the thing, it's all about the perception of doing it. I mean, we /random and /emote a lot because we're just a goofy social LS. Now maybe we should worry that some random person is going to get in a hissy fit because they don't like it or it irritates them. I mean, there's lot's a shit out there that irritates me in the chat log (like people shout spamming for gears/teles/missions), but I honestly figured that was life and to either /blist or just ignore it.

Out of curiosity (as I've never camped HNM's myself), would someone /randoming all the time really effect your ability to camp the HNM effectively? I just wonder if this was more a "ha ha now i have the HNM all to myself" kind of situation, and I would hope that GMs would be able to recognize when a complaint was a legitimate issue and not just someone exploiting the TOS to better their own situation unfairly.

It could also just as easily be that they weren't trying to get an advantage AND they didn't think it was impacting their ability to claim; they were just annoyed as hell.

At a recent Fafnir some people started spamming shouts during the fight. A GM showed up and asked them to spot and just let the linkshell fight. Ironically someone had called the GM for holding since they had done little or no damage for the first 20 minutes of the fight.

An entire group of people /randoming constantly at an already overcrowded area where a super rare mob could pop at a moments notice could infact hinder communications, of all kinds in game, at that camp. The fact that he had an infraction on his account already advanced him past the warning stage and into the temp ban stage.

Doing it in a city however will illicite a different, 'non-response' from the GMs. And shouting the same message once every few minutes will not be an infraction of any kind.

It's because the chat log was filled at an overcrowded, highly competitive area while he already had a strike on his account. So no, you won't get suspended for randoming randomly.

True, but there are a lot of annoyances out there...and being annoyed is subjective. It's just as reasonable that no one else out there gave a shit...from my own standpoint, I just worry now that as I'm running around with my crew and we're /random and /emote some asshole in the corner is gonna cry to a GM because he doesn't wanna see it. I wonder, did the person in question even attempt to contact them and ask them to stop, or immediately run to the GM crying. If so (we'll never know without those chat logs) then I say throw the book at them, but if not, unfortunately, I see it as being bitchy and exploiting.

Are you all flooding the log? Do you already have infractions on your account?

No? Then you have nothing to worry about even if someone calls a GM about it.

Sevv was doing a little more then just {Teleport-Holla} {Can I have it?} or /dance2 every once and a while.

Ok, well if it was being done in an attempt to hinder their efforts, then I say the ban was well warrented; I would be pissed too in that situation.

Recently, we've been farming Yag necklaces in Giddeus in a full party (we're a new LS so a lot of our members need them for getting utsusemi). We emote and random a lot while were running around to ease the boredom, but like I said, I guess we'd better tone it down lest one of the other peeps in there (doing the same thing) could be "annoyed" and get us removed. Maybe they really are annoyed, maybe not...but I would at least hope said person would /tell and ask us to stop before they went to a GM.

Combined with the fact that it's in a popular HNM camp! Can't forget that.

It was a horrible mixing pot of bad luck and bad timing. Had any one of the three main factors in the situation not been a factor, it would have never ended with a suspension.

Again, to be suspended for doing this you need to have three conditions met.

                  1) You have to spam and fill up the chat log. Not /emoting and /randoming every now and then. But constant and repeated use of them to the point that nothing anyone else does can be noticed because the logs are moving too fast.

                  2) You need to already have been warned/jailed by a GM. First offense is usually a warning, second is suspension.

                  3) You have to be in small an area with LOTS of people waiting on a specific thing. There were hundreds of people in a small, enclosed area waiting on a single monster to spawn.

And on top of that, there was no 'malice' on the /randomers part. It was a game to kill time as the monster wasn't due for another 20+ minutes. Infact there was more malice on the part of the one who called the GM as it was more then likely meant to remove competition then because it was annoying.

So no, you don't have to get worried about being suspeneded by /emoting and /randoming while farming.

P.S. Sevv, does this mean you're back in game? Cause like you spent all of 40 seconds in the LS and that's far from enough time to register how truely f'd up that place can be D=

I have to admit, that's was first interpretation of the events given the evidence. I haven't done a lot of NM camping because of what a competition it can be, so for all I knew it really could make camping this HNM impossible. If not, if it really is an "annoyance" thing, I think it's shitty that someone's state of annoyance can have ramifications on other people to this extent. Stupid people shouting in FFXI annoys the shit out of me all the time, but I don't think I should be able to get people banned because of it.

If it is something that can hinder playability, why doesn't SE put in a cooldown for /randoms? The only time we ever use /random in a "not screwing around" sense is when lotting for things, or determining who gets to be the sap that runs us out wherever we're going while we all /follow, both things that don't require it to be spammed. Would a cooldown on /random effect gameplay in some way that would I don't know of?

As for myself, I'll try and keep my /slap and /dance2 to a minimum, cause who knows what someone else considers "annoying"?

                        fixed.

As to annoyance, I'm not saying that every annoying person should be banned; there'd be nobody left to play.

There's a bit of a difference between making stupid shouts and spamming the log to the point where it would be impossible or nearly impossible to communicate.

and there's already a one second or so delay between how often you can run chat commands. The problem is that when there's *36 people doing it at once*, that's not really going to help.

It was bad luck that Sevv got hit with the suspension as I'm sure he's not the only one involved that had a strike on their record and bad timing because it shouldn't have been done near an HNM pop window.

Had they done that anywhere else any time else I doubt anyone would have been suspended.

It wasn't 'bad luck'. Unless you're saying that breaking the rules and getting away with it is a good thing. And it wasn't bad timing, unless you're saying there's a good time to spam other players.

try reading the whole post next time.

Sevv was the only one punished when dozens of other people were doing the same thing (hence me saying that I'm sure he wasn't the only one with a mark on their record).

And it was bad timing because if they did the same exact thing 8 hours before the HNM was going to pop no one would have called anyone.

GMs are a lot stricter and work faster when HNM camps are involved. It wasn't about breaking the rules as it was about an opportunity for a rival LS to get a bunch of people thrown out before the HNM popped.

That's not to say it wasn't stupid, but who wouldn't try and win a free 200k?

Just out of curiosity, how do you know Sevv was the only one punished?

Per the ToS, GMs can NOT tell you if someone else has been punished, it is an invasion of privacy. Sevv is the only one that posted here, so he is the only one that is known to have been punished. But the others could now have a warning, or also been temp banned.
