  • General Questions about FF11.

    Hi everyone,

Im new to the game and I would like to join in the community. However i have a few questions considering payment for the game.

1)What methods of payment do they accept?

2)How much is the monthly fee?

I'd like to know this before i commit myself to an investment. Help anyone?

A credit card is the only form of payment they accept. The first character is about $12 US, and about $1 for each additional character.

Also they don't prorate. So if you start in the middle of the month you will pay for a full one. They do give the first month for free though, when you buy the software.

They do prorate new accounts. It's just that if you sign up in the middle of a month, after your first 30 days, you get charged for the remainder of the month you're in, as well as the next full month. They don't prorate existing accounts that get reactivated, so if you quit, and then later come back on the same account two days before the end of a month, you'll get charged for a full month then instead of two days.

The reactivation proly had me confused then. I have had to many friends quit and come back only to complain about the fee.

Thanks to everyone's replies. It sucks that they only accept credit cards though. What about debit cards? Im not exactly working right now (eventhough im legally able to do so) Hence I dont have a credit card.

For now I probably dont mind the monthly charge cuz I've been a huge final fantasy fan for ever and well,i see it as a way to give back to the company that produced such great games before.

As far as I know, "credit card" includes anything that would be accepted as a normal Visa or MasterCard. That includes Visa/MC debit cards, gift cards, etc.

they do take debit cards as long as they have a Visa or mastercard logo. It just has to be the credit card type...

As stated, anything with the Visa/Mastercard logo is accepted. "Check cards" issued by banks that have these symbols work just fine, and I have used this method since day 1.

VISA and Mastercard are the only methods SE will Accept. When you sign up you will have a 30-day free trial, and the day after it expires you will get billed aprox every 30 days from that point (they don't have a fixed date that they bill people at, it goes by when you signed up)

                  The fee is $12.95 USD

Right, thanks once again for all the replies.

Ok here's the thing,I am in australia, with australian dollars in my bank (obviously) . So,if I pay online to SE for the monthly fee,how will they deduct the money from my account?

Im guessing that they will use the bank's exchange rate to change the money from AUD to USD right? Also,I think there is some sort of interest percentage there when I use a debit card.

Sorry for all the shockingly newb questions there.I've never really used my debit card online before.Kinda ignorant

                      Re: General Questions about FF11.

There will be a conversion (possibly with its own fee hidden in there) to US dollars at the time the transaction is initiated. Your bank will also most likely charge you a 3-5% international service fee that posts at the same time as the transaction, as well.

If you're playing on the NA client, though, then that really shouldn't be an issue, since the USD has lost significant value vs. virtually every other currency in the world over the past 6-7 years. I checked exchangerate.com, back in January 2001, the rate was ~1.80 AUD to 1.00 USD. Right now it's ~1.1 AUD to 1.00 USD. So yeah, your Australian dollars are worth ~40% more in USD now than they were seven years ago. You should probably take a vacation to the US...we could really use your money.

Haha thanks for the info Klumps. Yeah I guess I should inquire about the hidden fees from my bank. AS for vising the US of A, it sounds pretty good. I've always wanted to visit a couple of places there ever since I was a lil kid.

Unfortunately travel takes money and money needs to be earned. So I 'll prob get a job first and save up

How do I decide which server region to play from? (North america or the UK). Is that determined by product?

There's no such thing as a "server region". There are servers, and there are regions. You presumably will have the EU version of the software; the only real difference from the NA version is that it arbitrarily won't work with the NA versions of expansions, AFAIK. All regions and all platforms go to the same servers; there are no language-based or PvP or RP-based or PS2/PC/360-based servers. -- Pteryx

Hmm I see, in that case I have a few further questions.

1)If Im playing the euro server, how much is the monthly fee then?

2)Would the server lag excessively?I mean Im in Australia and the server's located in the UK.
