  • Newbie Seeking help.

hey guys so im waiting on my copy of FFXI to come through the post. Im just thinking what class / race to make whilst im waiting on it .
Ive seen the white mage job which has caught my eye, but im not 100% on which there role are. Are they a support class or healer or what ?.
Also would the little people go well with a white mage (dunno what the race is called ).

*soz for bad typing im sooo tired *

    Re: Newbie Seeking help.

White mage are the healer class. They heal.

And it really depends on what you wanna play
    Hume: little bit of everything
Elvaan : Packsa whallop Good WAR or MNK
Mithra : Dont play this unless you wanna be hit on 24/7, but are good THFs, and NINs
Tarutaru : are the cute little bastards that have a huge MP pool
Galka: Are the meat shields Great tanks

HOWEVER, race while it does have it's effects, isn't really too much of a concern. Wanna be a mithra WHM? Cute and useful? Go ahead, works fine.

Wanna be a TaruTaru Warrior? Still no problem. At least from what I've seen

For a newbie such as yourself i would suggest going with a red mage as they are pretty much black mage and white mage at a low level

When it comes to considering which race to select for a mage job, you should go with a Tarutaru. They have the best MP pool of all the races. However IF you intend to eventually get into all of the jobs at some point, I would go with a more balanced Race type, say Hume or Elvaan. While RDM is my favorite job to play, if you like healing and status curing then for you I would pick a Taru WHM

While you may get away with this in the lower lvls, please do not give the wrong impression of what RDM role is overall. RDM can melee but in the higher lvls is no where near the DD that say MNKs or DRKs are and as far as DD with Magic--- The highest Elemental magic A RDM gets is tier III, RDM fits better into a backline position as a main healer and Debuffer........... As a DD not even close

                  Re: Newbie Seeking help.

White Mage is primarily a healer and buffer. They give haste/protect/shell and take away status ailments when they are received. Tarutaru make great mages because of their huge mp pool, but they are squishy. However, if the tank does his job right the squishiness shouldn't really matter. With that being said, any race can play any job with the right player behind the character and the right gear. Just pick a race that you will enjoy, don't pick a race based on stats because those can be adjusted. Just my two cents.

For RDM in particular, being a Taru seems to have an advantage at level 40 when you get Convert...

                      Re: Newbie Seeking help.

Race really doesn't matter at all when it comes to job selection...some races are obviously more suited to mage jobs right out of the box (i.e., taru), but with the ridiculous amount of gear available out there, pretty much any job's weakness can be nullified, or at least softened quite a bit.

For instance, I'm an Elvaan, and my main job is WHM. While Elvaan have a great Mind stat (which is the stat most related to Cure potency), they have a weak MP pool compared to other races. However, as there's lot's of +MP gear available out there, it's really not an issue. Properly geared, any race can be as effective as any other, regardless of stats.

Also, once you get to the 30's, you can quest for your Race Specific Equipment. This is 4 items (Body, Hands, Legs, and Feet) that pretty much even out the deficiencies between races. For instance, the Elvaan RSE is heavy in +MP (our weakest stat, in my opinion) whereas the taru set is heavy in +HP (because they are so squishy).

Here is a link to the Race page on the FFXIclopedia...at the bottom of each race's page there are guide's to job selection...these will give you a good guideline to what races, right out of the box, are better suited to what jobs. But it doesn't really matter in the long run...

                      Good luck! ^^

                          It's a fun class/race combo

Just pick a critter you think you would enjoy and find a job that suits you - remember you only need to have one character to be every job! :D s'neat!

                            Re: Newbie Seeking help.

The most important consideration of all when beginning FFXI is not what job to choose. That can be handled simply by talking to a Moogle in town and asking it to change your current job.

What is most important is the race you pick. Choose something you can bear to look at for hours on end, be it the cuteness of a Tarutaru, or the feminimity (wow say THAT word ten times fast) of a Mithra, or the hulking strength of a Galka.

Stats are a consideration, but not nearly the most important one. Except for a handful of cases, the race you pick has very little impact on your performance at most of the jobs in the game (the only real tangible exceptions being Red Mage and Dark Knight, and only under some circumstances).
