  • Hackers strike again - over nine thousand sites infected.

Hackers from China launch massive invasion.

It looks like among the sites FFXI-Atlas was infected again, Somepage and AH maybe also.

Something does seem to be going down and FFXIAH/Atlas seem to have been hit as well. I've also heard word of several comprimised accounts. One person I'm acquainted with just lost all her gil, most of her R/E gear (even the Ridill was tossed).

This is why I refuse to play on PC, but then, the larger concern here is identity theft.

No, the larger concern is people putting servers and services online without any care about security.

EDIT: To be fair, FFXIah people think its another bad ad.

        Further Edit:

BTW, Again? Somepage has one iframe on their main page and it was definitely put there by them.

I don't think you get to pick the debate here, both are of equal concern, but do you really expect people running sites out of thier own pockets to have super-security like corporate sites? Its also just naive to leave so much information on your system anyway. Ultimately, its up to the user to put his personal information out there, this is why I seldom do it via PC.

You mean high security like TJ MAXX? BoA? The Pentagon?

Some, maybe even most, of the best tools to secure a site are OSS and free, all it takes the will to learn and use them. Small sites and the largest have the same access to them. It's not the cost that prevents people from using them.

This wouldn't make them RMT BBQ, that attack was personal. Rmt would have stripped the character of gil and sellable gear to sell the gil. Would have kept the ridill for better resell on the account.

Yeah I agree that case does seem quite personal, a lot of endgame WAR gear was tossed on this account, mostly R/Es and everything else was sold.

All the hackers last time were RMT, as well as the fact they are attacking the same sites and from china again.

The problem isn't browsing the web on PCs, it's browsing the web on unsecured PCs.

Good thing since getting this laptop I've kepted FFXI to the desktop and surfing on this.

Semi related note: ZoneAlarm has noticed POL been looking at resources again like how back when SE put that scanner thing up. Plus now it seems POL tends to lock up, but not crash(cpu goes to 100&, with VSmon and pol competeing), more if I launch any other programs. This happened since the version update.

That's nice. My Moogle for the last week and a half has alternately been: The Star Sybil, Fenrir, King Behemoth, and a blue chocobo. I've altered the fishing noise to be loud enough I can actually hear it without having to also jack up the WoTG theme music when I load the game. I've changed every goblin in the game to look like mithras, and sometimes I decide I like my crabs to be red instead of blue.

                              Keep your console.

If the price I pay for entertainment is keeping my software up to date, or using software that is more secure than the stuff that came in my box, I'm ok with that. If I lose the account or wipe a drive, well, shame on me.
