Re: quick question for you vets.
There's practically nothing in the new expansion that you can do before level 30. There are Campaign Ops that you can do at level 10 (before then, actually, but you don't get XP from them until 10), and some mobs you can fight starting around 15. But getting to the cities in the past is not an easy walk. I'd say hold off until you know you want to keep playing.Ellipses on Fenrir

What's 2007 missing? Wings of the Goddess?
You don't actually "need" that for some time, so can wait a bit if you like, unless East Ronfaure (S) Colibri party all of sudden becomes the most popular exp spot around ~Lv.35 or something.
Instead of waiting for a Buddy Pass, an alternative is to get the US$3.99 FFXI Starter Pack.Bamboo shadows sweep the stars,

Re: quick question for you vets.
I would say that in general ToAU and WoTG are lvl 40-50+ content, with some exceptions. WoTG has some nice low level camps, but I doubt alot of people will go there and it seems to me that the normal beasties are a bit tougher than the RoZ/CoP area mobs, so it can be a touch more dangerous as well.
Those freaking Mandies and Rabbits outside Windurst [S] hit HARD.
You have the right to remain silent, anything you say can and will be misqouted and then used against you.

Re: quick question for you vets.
If you're just now starting out, you'll be overwhelmed with things to do and unlock and places to explore between just FFXI and Rise of the Zilart. The other two expansions in the 2007 will provide some benefits, but they aren't going to do much for you for a while either.
Really the only reason to get WotG right now at your stage would be to unlock the two newest jobs, Scholar and Dancer. You won't be able to unlock either of those jobs until you get a starting job to 30 though anyway.

Re: quick question for you vets.
well like the guy above me said the only reason to get them if you're just starting out are the job unlock quests you can to starting at lvl 30. You'll just be missing five jobs: Scholar. Dancer, Corsair, Blue Mage, and Puppetmaster.
The missions and such are aimed at people lvl 50+Shadowneko's FFXI Newbie Guide 2009

Re: quick question for you vets.
i got the 2007 set, so far i am quite overwhelmed lol. coming from simpleminded linear games like wow, swg, eq2 this game is so broad it isnt even funny. i have been able to get to level 10 in about 14 hours played though. the only thing i cant seem to figure out is how to make gil. cause everything is so overpriced on the ah it isnt even funny. and now im hearing that axes arent that good i should have a great axe lol. oh yeah im a warrior

Re: quick question for you vets.
At the beginning, you are pretty much limited to selling things that monsters drop. Make sure you always get Signet from the gate guards, as Crystals are probably your biggest money maker early on. And don't feel bad about using an Axe, that is perfectly acceptable, but I would recommend getting a Great Axe too. You can never have too many options.FFXIV Balmung Server

Re: quick question for you vets.
Also, don't just buy everything from the Auction House. For anything you're looking to buy, see if you can buy it at a vendor for cheaper first. FFXIClopedia is a good source for that. Some weapons and armor are only available in certain cities under certain conditions, so you might have to weigh travel time (and danger) against difference in price, but you should always at least check.Ellipses on Fenrir

Re: quick question for you vets.
I dunno about your server, but those wimpy bees drop hive chips and honey.
And on my server they sell for around 5-10k at the auction house LIGHTNING fast.
If you are from windurst, Yagudo necklaces are farmable. On bahamut they sell for 500 a piece, and again real fast.

Re: quick question for you vets.
After buying your empress band, try picking up some Items sold from the Signet guys. Use CP you earn from leveling, they can bring you a quick 1K at rank one to NPC's, or you can try your luck on the AH as most items sell 5-10K that you get from these NPC's. The bonus is this is virtually free to do, you can and will get loads of CP. Its helped me many times when I am a couple K short of getting that next peice of sweet gear, or the must have spell.
