Alright I just got FFXI about a few days ago. I have read almost every class guide and other guides on this forum. Alot of people on my server tell me that I plan far ahead and its a good thing.

Right now I am a bit concerned about my plans..

I am new to the game and I have chosen Galka at the moment I have

    lv10 monk
    lv5 warrior

I planned ahead a bit by leveling my sub job first (Monk) and then going into my main (Warrior) I am going to continue with warrior to lv30.

Heres some things I need cleared up and tips etc are welcome.

I plan on making warrior my sub for sure I don't have alot of time on my hands so I am not gonna waste leveling up a complete new main and sub.

So warrior will be my sub at lv30 now heres my idea. Some might be noob I don't know this is why I posted.

Keep in mind im a Galka. Also I want a Main/Sub that will get me into groups and can solo I know when people say that is for solo and that is for groups well the game is about grouping no matter how much you wanna make gil or solo you will need to party up. So I don't need a gil/farming/solo job that bad.

    Re: concerned

One subjob will never cut it in this game, regardless of whichever of the four jobs you pick, there will be times you're asked to use a different subjob.

BLU commonly subs THF, NIN, WHM and WAR.
RNG commonly subs WAR, NIN, SAM and even WHM.
COR subs /RNG, /NIN, /DNC and a lot of the mage subjobs.
PLD mainly uses /WAR most of its career, but /NIN and /DNC come into play later.

More than any other, BLU will suffer for a lack of subjobs. BLU needs high level zone access for certain magic and you won't even get invited to the missions required or access if you don't have /NIN for them. Endgame PLD needs /NIN, too.

Blu/war is the basic combo for BLU. However, you'll find that BLU has the potential to use many subjobs such as NIN, WHM, etc. Personally, I enjoyed BLU/NIN the most for dual-wield and shadows.

Dunno about either ranger or corsair. I'd imagine /war works well for RNG though.

As for PLD, WAR will be your subjob from levels 1-75ish. In merit parties, people may want you to sub /NIN, but /WAR is almost always the sub of choice for PLD.

PLD75 DRK60 lots of other levels.

        Re: concerned

Well its great to hear Blu/War will work because I have alot of interest in Blue Mage.

Thanks for some feed back and I understand there will be other subjobs. I will give Ninja a chance after Blue Mage.

BLU/WAR is a decent tank to maybe mid Lv.30's, my experience. Can still tank after that, but it's a bit of stretch. As damage dealer, though, it's not the greatest since it doesn't add anything to BLU's spell damage beyond 10% better TP gain rate with Double Attack.

BLU/THF is widely acknowledged as the best damage dealing combination for BLU in regular exp parties (probably not merit parties, though). BLU/NIN is terrific in parties without strong enmity control, though above Lv.60, can always use /THF for Trick Attack to help with that issue.

COR/WAR is not that great at most levels, I think; /RNG should be more beneficial for the most to help out the B Marksmanship skill.

RNG/WAR has more going for it, but easy to become an MP sponge in the hands of overzealous players. It's also heavily dependent on a good tank to be able to utilize /WAR's Berserk to full advantage.

leaving no trace in the water.

The galkas stats make you a good tank (I know i was a good one with a Galka) you can take a good beating and still survive with your high VIT, DEF and HP. Granted MP is a bitch but as you progress you can get a few RSE bits ( I always had hands and feet equiped giving me a good mp boost as well as fasting ring (-20HP + 10 MP) which is a lvl 15 ring that you can tget from an easy NM in Tahrongi canyon. Mage jobs are difficult for a galka and if you have jsut started with teh race its best to keep melee / tank till you really learn the ropes of thr game. sam is also a nice little job to get for Galka, we can hit hard and take a bit of backlash.
