    Re: New players and money

Boyhada Moss can be found of Gobbues in Pashow. A level 35 can run that with one hand behind his back. You can trade it to Melyon in Selbina for fame and gil or AH the stuff. Drop isn't rediculous, but it's money.

Fishing - a stack of Moat Carps goes for 2.5k at the AH, some other fish sell well too

Farming - At low level, at least out of Windurst, you can farm a bunch of stuff. Yag Necklaces sell well (for the Nanaa Mihgo quest), you can desynth them into grass thread and reweave it into grass cloth which sells ok on the AH but the Colthcraft NPC buys it for a decent price as well. Antidote is an easy Alchemy synth, and they Always sell well in stacks. Low Level foods also sell well, and can make your consumables cheaper if you make your meat jerky or grilled hare yourself.

Gardening - a bit hit or miss until you really get the hang of the elemental affinities of (days of week, Type of Pot, Type of Seed, Crystal used and Day of week planted/harvested) everything which affects your harvest, but once you get the hang of it, I can usually score colored ore, or rare crystals or whatever else I can try to grow thats useful/profitable. - Not to mention how profitable Tree Saplings are, and cactus stems are so rare, you can sell them in minutes...

But Fishing is our main money maker - My husband loves to fish, he enjoys it and applies his analytical nature to the thing - spreadsheets, data collection, MCoT calculations [that's Moat Carp over Time]. I know when it's Full Moon, or New Moon, he will fish non stop on his char, and I'll join in on my char and we can catch 14-21 DOZEN moat carps during the moon phase, not even fishing constantly (Moon phase is about 10 hours RT). Thats 17.5k per 7 dozen Moat Carps (since we can only sell 7 things at any one time) times either 2 or 3 (14 or 21 doz) Thats a hi of 52.5k and a low of 35k for a days worth of fishing. THATS GREAT MONEY. We started with the Willow rod and little worms, bought fishing gear when we could find it and afford it, now up to composite rods and anglers gear (remember to turn in your fish to the Guild NPC to raise your skill over 10). Fishing is one of my husbands favorites, it's kind of boring for me, unless I remember to call them Money Carp, not Moat Carp - LuShangs Rod quest requires 10,000 moat carp, so there is a HUGE market for Moat Carp, everywhere you go. Fishing isn't like the other crafts, where your chances of a fail are pretty much a regularly calculable frequency, fishing you actually get better at, the more you fish Honestly, there is no real reason to be broke, you just can't spend every second adventuring. If you think you can, expect to spend a very long time wearing first level "Gogo" gear, 'cause with a lot of folks leveling new jobs (which is fun to watch! DNC is a hoot to see!) low level drops dont sell for bupkus at the AH. Your only option is farming quests, tho they dont pay real well (Crawlers aren't bad - Calculi trade to the Dhamel Herder Mithra for 600g for 3, Silk Threads sell well at the AH or you can sell them for 200g+ to NPCs, DROP the Smooth Stones; Chamama's Pickling Stone Quest is infuriating, so don't bother). So Really, Spend time in Vana'diel doing more than just killing mobs, and you can learn about ways to make money - and KNOW PRICES - yesterday, I found twelve Orange Juice on sale in a players bazaar for 50g each, nabbed'em ran to the AH and trippled my money in 2 hours. There are opportunities to make money everywhere, you just gotta know where they are, and also, not be stupid and flood a market - if you make a good profit on something, do a few, NOT TWENTY DOZEN!!! Already three of my money makers have been ruined by other people coming in and flooding a market driving the price down down down (I WAS making 3k+ per dozen Moat Carps, but now, 2.5k - market forces - meh).

Seriously - there is a guide on the ffxiclopedia (look in the "Guides" section) written by an economics grad student that will tell you everything you need to know to become a master of Vanad'iel economics. Money is pretty easy to come by if you are willing to spend the time and effort it takes to get it, and ready and willing to take chances on open markets.
