  • Trouble starting Final Fantasy XI.

After Downloading Playonline, the vista edition, and filling out ALL of my account information, inputting the game codes ect, I go to play the game and it says: "Error code 020: Final Fantasy XI is not installed."

I DID install the game on play online. Can someone help me?

This is because your registry doesn't have FFXI listed if I remember correctly. Also, Playonline =/= FFXI (or are you referring to something else?).

Re: Trouble starting Final Fantasy XI.

I am trying to play FFXI. I read this from the manual disc:

      1. Insert the FINAL FANTASY XI Vana’diel Collection 2007 disc
Insert the FINAL FANTASY XI Vana’diel Collection 2007 disc into your computer’s
      DVD-ROM drive.

      2. Launch Installer
The installer should start automatically. If it does not, run “setuppol.exe” from the root
directory of the FINAL FANTASY XI Vana’diel Collection 2007 disc. Then click “Install
FINAL FANTASY XI” button to continue installation.

Ok, Im stuck at step 2. I try to run this, but it says that Play online is already downloaded. Which it is. I downloaded the Vista version.

I am trying to download FFXI from the 2007 collection. But I cannot there.

      Please help me.

Maybe see if there is a setup executable for FFXI instead of using the autorun installer? May be a "setupffxi.exe" file in there somewhere. It has been about a year, but I think I recall having to find individual executables to install FFXI and the expansions from the '07 Collection after I installed the Vista POL on my laptop.

          1. install vista POL
          2. insert disk and install FFXI, expansions and such

It should be good to run then but I had some XP install headaches with my sister's PC that made me reinstall everything at least twice!

Re: Trouble starting Final Fantasy XI.

The best and easiest way to get POL up and running on Vista, is to go to any gaming store, (possibly even walmart might have it), and buy that $1.99 FFXI "Starter Pack" Disk.
Make sure to read the back label under "minimum requirements" it should say "Operating System" windows 2000/XP/Vista if it does, you have found the correct version.
Load the disk into your CD ROM drive and it will pull up a menu.
            Select "INSTALL PLAYONLINE".
This will put POL on your computer, and yes, it works fine on vista happy
After POL is installed, it will pull up the menu again on it's own, and it will give you the options to install FFXI, FFXI:Zilart , FFXI: CoP, and FFXI: ToAH.
You may then put your FFXI disk into the CD ROM drive, and it will automaticlly start the FFXI install.
After all your expansions have been installed, viola, you may now log into POL and start the update process.

I do NOT recommend using the downloadable version of POL vista from the POL website.
The reason being, is that there are actually two versions of the installer, a EU one, and a US one, and if you download the wrong one, when you try to install FFXI, you get an error message saying that POL was not found and FFXI will not be installed.
I downloaded mine from the ffxius website, and still got this error message.
Your absolute best bet, is to spend the $1.99 and buy that starter pack disk.
