  • TP Gain Math Help

Alright, I'm finally starting to look into this side of game mechanics and trying to do more min/maxing setup, but just had a quick question or two:

I understand how to find the amount of TP/swing gained, but I'm not sure how people figure out the # of seconds between swing rounds(I know it's the delay, but not sure how that translates into actual time) so that I can figure out something along the lines of "'it takes ## seconds to build 100 TP w/ XXX setup". Can someone fill me in on this one?

    Thanks in advance

Can't access ffxiclo from work or I would've gone there first(hence why I ask a decent amount of questions that could be looked up during the day).

I can only access BGWiki and they don't have that info on there that I can find.

Erm, sorry to ask, but could you possibly do a copypasta for me?

        Delay

        From FFXIclopedia

        Jump to: navigation, search
The time that is between swinging or shooting with a weapon.
        Melee Delay

Every 60 delay for a melee weapon is equal to 1 real time second, and it is determined by the weapon used (except for Hand to Hand delay). For example, a 450 delay Great Katana (such as the festive Wooden Katana), takes 450 / 60 = 7.5 seconds between attack round. A faster weapon, such as the 280 delay Lotus Katana, then takes 280 / 60 = ~4.7 seconds between attack round.
Delay determines the amount of TP returned per hit. The Haste status effects (including from both Haste and March) and Haste equipment reduces the time interval between attack rounds without affecting TP. The Dual Wield trait reduces the time interval between attack rounds, but affects TP gained per hit as well, generally reducing it.
The the level of Martial Arts trait sets the base delay for Hand to Hand attack rounds, while Hand to Hand weapons contribute 0 or more additional delay when equipped.
Two Handed Delay (Sword Strap) works like Dual Wield delay and Tp is recalulated after reduction.
        Ranged Delay

Ranged delay have a different mechanism from melee delay :
        • Ranged delay is about twice as fast as melee delay : 110 delay/second
        • Ranged weapon delay is the only variable affecting the total delay. Ammo delay doesn't affect the total delay.
        • Ranged attack delay is divided into 3 phases :
          • 1. Pulling out ranged weapon, aiming, and shooting : this time span is calculated by : Weapon Delay / 110
          • 2. After shooting → putting back ranged weapon : This delay usually takes 1.7 second to 1.8 second. However, occasionally, it can take fluctuate from 1.6 second to 1.9 second
          • 3. "Free" phase : at this time span, melee timer is un-paused. The minimum time this delay can have is 1.1 second
So the delay between shot of ranged weapon is :
        Delay = (Weapon Delay/110)s + 1.7s~1.8s + 1.1s
        There ya go.

          Re: TP Gain Math Help

Thanks...so say for example a standard Joyeuse gives 6.0tp/swing, needing 17 swings to hit full TP, or 12 attack rounds on average...224 delay comes out to 3.7~ seconds per round, and 45~ seconds to hit full TP on average...does that sound about right?

Roughly, yeah. Of course, it won't take quite that long, as Joytoy sneaks in a few extra swings here and there, reducing waiting time.

With my Mezraq (delay 492) and gear set up, I'm generally seeing about 6-8 swings until 100 TP or so. I normally don't count, however, since /SAM and my gear setup (along with Jumps) tend to interrupt my melee swings a lot, and I often end up getting 100% or more faster.

Those numbers seem about right, however, when I'm on Blue Mage.

Yeah I was counting the Joyeuse procs in there with the 12 attack rounds to land 17 hits, but I guess I didn't account for accuracy, so to be safe I guess I'd need to account for about 20 swings(at 85% acc) or 14 attack rounds, so 52~ seconds w/o Haste(which seems more normal, I was thinking it takes me longer than 45 seconds to fill TP).

Now I just need to figure out how to calculate my acc into actual hit rate % and I'm in business... XD
