    Re: Retireing

I had a rl friend who was basically in your same situation. First he got to level 30ish as his highest before quitting due to lack of time. Second time around, he continues his grind all the way to level 42(ish) before calling it quits for the second, and presumably, last time. The only reason I could cite for his boredom was that he really only ever logged on with the intent to get an exp party. I've been playing for almost 2 years now and I still don't have a 75 (73 atm) job. Thing is, FFXI is a game that has many opportunities for fun and adventure, but a lot of it comes for those who seek it. Standing around for 2 hours lfg every night onry isn't quite what I'd call fun either.

However, in that same aspect, if the one activity you pursued the most has become dull and boring, and you just can't be bothered to try anything else, I say by all means call it a day. I wouldn't ever tell someone to just keep on paying to play if you hardly play, and rarely enjoy it when you do.

Take care pal. Hopefully see ya around here.

Soloing isn't really even that hard now in FFXI, the catch is just that SE makes you earn it through leveling WHM, NIN, RDM, BLU and now DNC subjobs. I've soloed DNC practically to sub level so far, levelled BLU to sub level, soloed half my RNG sub, hell, I've only ever had 2-3 PTs on BST. If I take up BLM a sub again, I'll have to solo that probably, but I know where to go and how at least.

DRG, PUP, BST, NIN, RDM, BLU, THF, RNG, DNC, PLD and BLM can all solo capably. Now melees have a better chance of it with /DNC.

What you get out of this game is what you put into it, too many put too little into the game and expect a lot in return. Life doesn't work like that, why should I expect a game to?

I prefer the path FFXI has stuck with, with harsh penalties designed to make the player learn from their mistakes and become better overall. I'm so sick of all the babies out there that whine and complain that something is too hard and ruin if for everyone else. Go play Hello Kitty Online if u can't take a challenge and only want something easy!

          Re: Retireing

Leveling SCH to 39 or so, I've been grumbling about JP players being stingy with invites, even though they don't seem to have any complaint about my performance when I actually get in a party.

Then, a friend who was leveling his NIN for kicks asked if I wanted to exp with him last week. Feeling more secured with a tank--we can duo reasonably if JP players didn't want to team up--I started asking players to team up, J, E, or otherwise. Not one person turned me down, two parties in a row--I'm Lv.43 now. (Our last party was a half-JP beetle killing machine: NIN, SAM x2, SCH x2, RDM for frequent Distortions and quadruple MBs.)

Apparently, at this level range, they are just as desperate for parties as we are!

          * * *

Sorry the frustration drove you away, Jarre.

Keep in mind S-E has done a lot to make small parties easier, and that there are people desperately seeking experience points, should you ever return.

Are you assuming this is what Jarre does or just throwing some random shit into the thread to back up your nonsensical comments. Getting CoP completed as a Euro on a server with a low Euro population and with restricted playing hours is damn near fucking impossible. Did I get CoP completed? Yes, after running with a NA shell on successive weekends from midnight to 5am each Friday and Saturday. Did I enjoy the process? I barely remember any of it as I was struggling not to pass out the whole time.

Until you actually experience playing on European time with a massively restricted playerbase then seriously cram your opinion up your arse! In case you missed it, the OP didn't initially mention being a Euro as being linked to his reason for quitting, simply he finds it hard to find / form a party with only two hours to spare. Try and understand that whilst your life is FFXI, other people in the real world actually work, have family and partners outside the game, property to maintain, etc. I'm sure staying up till 5am would be an acceptable compromise for you but the remainder of the population would probably have issues with that.

                Re: Retireing

I would like to remind people that this is a thread from a valued member of our community expressing his desire to leave the game and letting people know in case he doesn't see them in game. This is NOT a "let's skewer him because I think his reason stinks" thread. One day we all will decide to leave the game and hope that our friends accept it graciously for whatever reason we decide to. If you want to say goodbye or good luck to Jarre, be my guest. He doesn't deserve this flaming just for leaving the game.

                  Agreed!

Very well said, we should instead all be flaming him for making his parties suffer through his tanking in subligar!

And why is it that Bone Subligar is the exception to the rule anyway? Those are one of the few pairs of pants that I can think of that mithra can wear.

                        Re: Retireing

I once watched a documentary about the Roman empire, and how some archaeologist somewhere found a package with a letter stating (in Latin) that it was a delivery of subligaria, which turned out to be the Latin word for underpants.

Suddenly, all the nightmare visions of Galka started making sense.

Oh, yes, and my tributes to Jarre, as well: I am sure mid-level Vana'diel lost a valuable tank with your departure.

Would have I expressed my opinion had I no experience with it? I've not only played on EU hours, but done CoPs with people on EU hours, been in a HNM Linkshell that was predominantly EU and JP. I still work with EU and AU people right now on CoP and Assault. It may not be easy, but you can make it work if you really try.

So yeah, I think I do know something about it. They had multiple 75s, but most of them worked with the hand they were dealt, took up mage and tank jobs and formed thier own PTs. Or they took up soloable jobs.

I've soloed practically all of BST, BLU and DNC. People have gone to greater lengths than that on limited time.

You seem to jump the gun in response to me quite a bit lately. I believe I got a diatribe from you saying I was bashing WoW when all I did was tell a forum RMT bot this wasn't a WoW forum at all. I think you need to unwind a little.

The OP made statements that there was a lack of content that helped people progress through the game. This is false, SE has made huge strides to make such content, it is only the user's fault for not taking advantage of it.

At any rate, forum goodbye threads are kinda silly to me. You're basically telling a bunch of people - who likely feel nothing for you nor care - that you're quitting the game. I think that talk has a better place on a blog or server forums and people you actually knew can be addressed, thanked and they too can say thier goodbyes in kind.

RL has made me busier than ever and I don’t have the time to play for 4 hours + of which parties are now wanting. I can't do missions or any higher level quests due to the time it takes. It has been 2 weeks now I have been LFP'ing and nothing, or I'm asked how long you can play and I say max 2 hours and its "no thanks".

Se really needs to look into providing events and levelling at higher levels that don't mean you have to be slaved to the screen for 4-8 hours at a time. 60% of SE's paid gamers are over 20 and 80% of them have a job, like myself.
I feel ya. Starting in October of 2007 I only get Saturdays to play. Monday-Friday is work + children and Sunday is church + family day. Before October 2007(Pre-Graduate college) I was around 4-6 hours for 4-5 days a week.

I learned to compress everything in to one day. Every week I have to decide what I plan to do that Saturday which always includes multi-tasking. For example: I want to break latent on my Gravedigger so I use my NPC and farm (Scorpion stuff, Beetle Jaws, and Raptor Skins/Phantom worm/Yowie). Even though I dont think I can take Yowie but I will find out if I ever get him to spawn -.-

InRL: I wish you all the best and you will be shock how much free time you have now that you dont play FFXI.
