  • Why Are These Chocobo No-go Zones?

I was doing a supplies run for the Fauregandi region yesterday.
So that's Beacedine Glacier for the outpost there. But when I got to the start of the zone there, I decided I would use my choco, just to avoid getting agro by mobs on the way to the outpost. But I got a message in the chat window saying something to the effect.... you cannot do that in this area. So I was left with no choice but to sneak/invis my way over instead. It's not that I see that as a bad choice at all. It just makes me feel a little nervous sometimes when you get the message that it's starting to ware off, and I worry that it will ware off in the middle of a whole group of mobs somewhere..... hence the agro. But so far I have been lucky. So it's not bad really.

    Anyway, as I was saying.
I got to the Xarcabard and Beacedine Glacier zones, and it doesn't seem possible that you can ride choco in them.

From what I understand..... chocobos are not allowed in dungeons and cities. (which I think is perfectly reasonable) But ffxi atlas says that Xarcabard and Beacedine Glacier are both outdoor zones, and that's the thing I do not understand.

Unless...... I was trying to use my own chocobo with my own chocobo whistle that I made with the VCS Chocobo Trainer in Sandy. Is it possible that you can only ride through those zones with the original chocobos, and not your own?
I just don't know to be honest.

Can anyone answer my question here please?

There's no way for a chocobo to get there. The only access to them is a dungeon.
I use a Mac because I'm just better than you are.

Mhurron's answer is the most logical reasoning, but also, I always figured it was because they couldn't run in snow. :p

Now here is an interesting thought. In the past, there is a ramp in Batallia Downs [S] that leads up to the exit to Glacier [S] (atm its gated off). Assuming they are implementing Chocobos in the past soon, would we be able to use chocobo in Glacier [S] and Xarcabard [S]?

          Chocobos != Penguins!
They don't like the cold! It makes their feathers stand on ends! Do you know what a Chocobo looks like with their feathers on ends!!!

Exactly! Forcing your Chocobo to come to you in frozen barren wasteland is disgraceful as a Chocobo rider! Your license should be stripped from you and you should walk for all of Eternity!

They never seem to mind the cold when some pompous jerk's kid gets the sniffles.

There is no rush. If you're not willing to take your time, don't be surprised when no one wants to give you much of theirs.

Honestly, mine would think it par for the course, considering our already abusive relationship.

You have a very good point there indeed!
I never really thought of it like that. Thanks.

There's also another outdoor zone which came to mind, you can only get to on chocobos by going through city areas - Qufim Island. /sigh!

Qufim is and yet is not an outdoor area.

You people who think chocobos can't work in snow obviously don't remember unlocking BST. And they obviously can go through Battallia just fine, even when it's snowing.

The reason they don't work there is because there's just no way to get there. They can't climb up walls, and they can't go through dungeons. They also cannot be teleported, so they're just SOL.

Aww...... poor chocobo! That's not nice.
The thought of a frozen chocobo makes my blood boil! Therefore I'll extract some of it from myself to add it to the chocobo's inner body. That should be enough to keep it warm. And if that fails..... then I'll just wrap it in a nice, thick warm blanket instead.
That's bound to keep it warm for the rest of the day, if not, then a whole week.

I cannot walk, owing to the fact that a little taru came along and bit my ankles, causing me severe stress and pain. That's where my warm and helpful chocobo comes in handy to carry the walking wounded.

                      Okay.... now I'm completely confused!
How can Quifim both BE, and NOT BE an outdoor area at the same time?
It's a completely outdoor area because 99% of it has the sky above, and no roof. (which makes dungeons the way they are)

But like I said, the only way to get there, is by going through Jeuno's city zones.
So that's something I understand. (presuming that Jeuno is the only way to get there, as far as I know, other than the teleportation service of course, but that's understandably impossible too)

Yes Qufim is an outdoor area but it doesn't count as one when unlocking summoner.

You can escape from Delkfutt's Tower to Qufim = Outdoor
Does not qualify as a weather source for the SMN quest = Dungeon

Having a sky doesn't make a zone "Outdoors" when it comes to outdoors vs. dungeon. Dangruf Wadi, Giddeus, Ghelsba Outpost, Beadeaux, Ifrit's Cauldron...

Really, it's just like pretty much every question about this game that begins with "Why." The answer is "Because."
